My gggf was their son Henry Samuel Cronk. The family I am looking for: David Cronk: Born about 1803 in Camden or Ernestown, Ontario, Canada Died 1868-1869 in Olden, Frontenac, Ontario Canada Married Nancy Clark before 1829 Nancy Clark: Born between 1811 and 1813 in Ernestown, Ontario, Canada Died 1892 in Olden, Frontenac, Ontario, Canada Their Children: Sylvester Cronk - b. 21 Aug 1829 Tyendinaga, d. 27 May 1906 Hinchinbrooke, m. Mindwell Vannest Sylvanus Cronk - b. 23 Jan 1831 (Canada), d. 23 Aug 1896 Frontenac, m. Deborah Cronkhite Wilson Cronk - b. 14 Mar 1833 Camden, d. 20 Mar 1915 Sheffield, m. (1st) Catherine VanVolkenburgh, (2nd) Mary Jane Graham Cousins William Cronk- b. 27 Apr 1835 Camden, d. 02 Jan 1925 Olden, m. (1st) Mary Polly Vannest (2nd) Sabra Babcock York (1st wife moved to Michigan) Henry Samuel Cronk- b. Sep 1840 Ontario, d. 07 Feb 1917 Armstrong, Iowa, m. Mary Elizabeth Horswell Dorcas Cronk - b. 11 May 1846 Ontario, d. 23 Jun 1923 Armstrong, Iowa, m. Richard Horswell (father of Henry's wife) John Cronk - b. 15 Apr 1847 Camden, d. 23 Jul 1935 Menomonie, Wisconsin, m. Sarah Coglon Columbia Cronk - b. about 1849 There was another daughter born about 1842 listed in the 1861 Olden Census of Canada - usually interpreted as Karel looks like Haret to me. Another source lists a transcription of 1851 Census and states another son Matthew born same age as William. Have not found the family myself on the 1851 Census. Henry, Dorcas, John, and Columbia went to Iowa and most can be found in the 1870 Census. Columbia and Dorcas in Springvale, Iowa and John in Des Moines. John ended up in Wisconsin and a biography is included in the History of Dunn County. Dorcas and Henry are mentioned in the History of Emmet County. Columbia disappears after the 1870 census (so far anyway) I have seen David and Nancy's parents listed on Ancestry tress as Abraham Cronk/Elizabeth Barker of Prince Edward Island and Alexander Clarke/Elizabeth McCleve of Fredericksburg but do not believe either of these to be correct. There was a Nancy Clarke in Fredericksburg. She is usually given with a birth date of 1784 (in the trees) making her logically too old to have been the mother of most of the children in this family. She would have been 45 with the first child and 65 when the last child was born. Secondly there is an 1806 marriage record for a Nancy Clarke. She married a Joseph Gunsolus in Fredericksburg. David Cronk is frequently listed as David Barker Cronk of Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward Island in Ancestry trees but I have not found any evidence to support this. David Cronk and David B. Cronk can be found separately in the 1861 census. David B. Cronk is in Sophiasburgh while David Cronk is in Olden. The David Cronk family in 1861 Census of Olden is wife Nancy, children: Henry, Karel/Haret, Dorcas, John, and Columbia. Wilson, William, and Sylvanus (and Matthew) are on the same page with their families. The David B. Cronk family contains wife Sarah, children: Barker and Samantha. Given the son's name is Barker and their locale in Prince Edward, it is very likely that they are the family that belongs with the Cronk/Barker line. Any help with David and Nancy would be greatly appreciated! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
