    3. Hi Marie, I am not sure who the little girl is who lived in their house, but I do know that on the 1900 census for Hatton twp. Clare County, Michigan the census asked the women how many children they had given birth to and how many were still living, Rosetta's answer to both questions was 0. I don't think the child is theirs who she is and where she belongs, I don't know. Rosetta though was a sister to my g-g-grandfather and I know their father died when they were young and because of it the children were all sent to live with different relatives. So maybe this is Rosetta's way of giving back. I am not sure what you mean by taking a closer look, I have tried to take a close look and I still have more questions than answers. In my putzzing I found on the 1881 census Brighton, Northumberland, John and Rosetta and now 13 yr old Rosanna but they are under the name CRONKWRIGHT. On the 1871 it said the 3 yr old was born in the USA, I thought maybe they were popping back and forth. On the 1881 census it said Rosanna was born in Canada. Don't know if this is news to you but if it isn't you may want to be taking a closer look at those "Cronkwrights" Marie -----Original Message----- From: cronk-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cronk-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Vicki Sent: Thursday, July 02, 2009 9:56 PM To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com; cronk@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Cronk] 3 Reubens Marie, I have tried to untangle that family as have others before me. If you get anywhere please let me know, I could sure use some help. Of special interest to me John Cronk born abt 1822, found living in 1861 with John Sr. born abt 1786 USA and Hannah born abt 1788 born USA, parents, Also Rosetta born abt 1838 CW. I am also trying to place a Sarah Cronk maybe a sister to John Cronk above born abt 1822 and probably daughter of John and Hannah who married Christopher Phillips and produced my GGGrandmother Samantha born in 1839, called a niece to John Cronk. Who the John and Sarah are I have no idea. I used to think they were just misidentified on the 1851 census, but now I see both families on the 1861 census so that idea is gone. Christopher Phillips has brothers who settled in Northumberland County as well Abraham born abt 1801, Renselser born abt 1814. I have collected quite a bit of Cronk information I have as many baptismal records and marriage records as I can find on that name, in Ontario and NY but I am still at a loss. If I can help let me know. This all takes place in Murray, Northumberland East. Of most interest to me is John Cronk and Sarah born 1783. Any help will be appreciated. 3. Hi: Just a FYI..........the Dutch changed the name from our forefather Herck Siboutson who landed in New Amsterdam or New York Iong Island about 1642 and one researcher told me that she has seen 44 ways that I am aware of. I have seen over 30. One of them is Cronkright. My spelling was Cronkright from our line out of VT(1785) to NY(1840) then on to Oh(late 1840's). It then was changed once out of VT to Conkright. Then my grandfather added the W in the mid 1800 to Conkwright when in IN. You can't just stick with one spelling of this line, but look at them all................Cronkhite is yet another spelling...........as in Walter Cronkhite. He is from the Herck line also..............I learned this lesson many years ago once I figured out the name spelling problem. There was a reason that the Dutch did this, but all goes back to when the British took New York with firing a shot and that is yet another story. Happy Hunting and Good Luck!
