Hi Marie, I don't have a lot of information on this family but I do know the three boys living with them on the 1851 Census are their grandsons, why they listed them as Cronk's I don't know because they are Dingmans: There was a lot of marrying between the Dingman families and the Cronk families or at least this Cronk family. What I have is a letter written by a sister of my g-g-grandfather, the letter makes several references to this branch of the Cronk family: Joseph DINGMAN Married twice. He had three boys by his first wife, Mathias, Jeffery, and Byron. They were brought up by their grandmother, Mrs. Samuel CRONK in Cramma. If you look you will notice when the boys married they used the name Dingman. Everyone has Joseph Dingman marrying a Diantha Blakely, I presume a daughter of Samuel and Catherine, why her name is different I don't know. I hope this helps? In searching further, I found on the 1851 Census of Northumberland ON, a 61 year old Samuel b. US abt 1790 married to Chatherine also 61 and also born in the US. Indeed old enough to be the parents of Samuel/Eliza. On that same 1851 cencus, listed as sons of Samuel/Catherine b. in Ont Mattius 10, James 7, Byron 5. I assume they also would have older children. Does anyone know of this Samuel and Catherine and their family? or where in the US they were born? or when they entered Canada? I do not know the name of Samuel's (1820) father but am just following a possiblity. Thanks for any h! elp anyone may have.
