    3. I am reposting this from an earlier time. There seems to be lots more activity on the Cronk list now. I am searching for any information on Henry H. Cronkhite, b 10 August 1824 in Herkimer County, NY. I have found references to a Henry C. Cronkhite also from Herkimer County, but no reference to Henry H. Interested in finding his father's name to further my quest. Darryl G. Adams [email protected]

Marlene, In the info that I received, along with the copies of the CRONKHITE genealogy (pages 159-168) and a typed letter from the Westchester Co. Historical Society, there was a hand written page that said: "This Cronkhite Genealogy is presented to New York State Library, Albany, New York, Feburary 1953. By the compiler, Leona Mae Greene Hildeubaud (Mrs. George), 111 Prindle Ave. Johnstown, N.Y." I'm not sure about the spelling of Prindle, it's hard to read the hand writing. Also Hildeubaud may be Hildeubraud. The letter from Westchester Co. Historical Society is dated Aug. 29, 1995. The typed letter signed Elizabeth G. Fuller, Librarian, just says Mackenzie Data. But I have seen it called the Grenville MACKENZIE Genealogical Files on the Dutch- Colonies List where a list of the surnames and their page numbers was posted. 3. NOTE: I am forwarding a copy of this letter to the the Cronk mailing list. Donald, if you are not subscribed, I recommend that you do so. I am just stunned over this information! Hopefully it will turn out to be false. After an 8-day workshift at the motel where I gain my income to support my addiction (to genealogy), I'm starting to go back through my snailmail. Somewhere is a letter on my desk from a cousin in Maine. Nellie sent me an old photo of Hezekiah's grave!!!! I will have it scanned and send to you soon. A story that goes with this is: When Hezekiah Cronkhite died, he had a nice church funeral as he was a Christian man. But, on the farm he owned, there is/was a large boulder. It is said that when the moon is full Hezekiah dances on that boulder! 3. Hi Marlene: This is the story on the Mackenzie Papers. I have a copy of them and I got them from the Westchester County Historical Society. This is from a letter written by Elizabeth G Fuller Librarian of Westchester Library. "The Mackenzie data on the Crankheit family is 10 pages only -- what you already have is complete. Mr. Mackenzie was a professional genealogist from Westport, Conn. He spent many years working on his compilation of the tenant families of the Philipsburgh Manor, which consisted of over 200 families. Most of the work was done during the 1950's and 1960's, and it was not complete when Mr. Mackenzie died." That was all she said about him. His name was Granville Mackenzie. I have always called his 10 page report the Mackenzie Papers. It is just to bad he never was able to finish his work. I hope this clears up the question on his work. Happy Hunting! Court

He died in 1868 in Ellisburg. Marlene

    3. H.E.....Good to see you are still at it also. One other thing in Emma's letter of interest. It appears that James may have fought for the Revolution and Jacob for the British. I believe that the Jacob that was killed at the Battle of Bennington was the nephew of James. He was on the side of the British. That's the way I have it figured out. Because there is a record of a Jacob Cronkright that saws up later on. There is also a list of Jacob's family and most of them were Tories and killed in battle. One of them was a Jacob. This is why I stopped on the book until it could all be cleaned up. Looks like you are still at the mystery and glad to get your new information. There has to be someone out there that knows of this family from Vt. Just to many in the family to be stonewalled like this. Like you, I hope these msg's bells a ring with someone. The other thing that may have happened and I have the names involved it that, the family went to Canada and then after thing died down came back and settled in Rutland, Vt. There is a gap in the period of the War and James in Rutland. Anyway all for now........Happy Hunting.........Court

    3. Court, It's good to see you're still at it. I read your listing and see we're still pretty much in common, seeing that we've compared notes before. One item that might help someone - Margaret Ethwith was born in Philadelphia. Your PS saying that James Cronkright lived in Ft. Edward NY before moving to Rutland Co VT has lead me to some interesting speculation. Emma Conkright's story of the 3 brothers has two of them fighting in the Battle of Bennington; one of them was killed. I contacted the Battle of Bennington museum and they have no listing of a Conkright or Cronkite being killed, but they do not list Loyalists who fought for the British; they were buried in a mass grave without markers, they related. I am told by other researchers that many Dutch immigrants were Loyalists and the British had a base at Ft. Edward. The move from Ft. Edward NY east to VT may have occurred at the end of the Revolutionary War, in which case it could have been caused by James' property being confiscated. VT was not a state yet, so it may have been an option to Canada as to where to move. I have found some documents on confiscated properties but no James. Any researchers with better luck out there? H.E.

It is the Cronkhite Genealogy compiled by Leona Mae Green Hildeubaud of Johnstown, NY. She donated it to the New York State Library, Albany, NY., February 1953. These Cronks were Krankheyt back in Holland. Then through the generations it went to Cronckheit and some branches of the family dropped the "heit" and just went to Cronk. Some branches went to Crank. They went to "The First Reformed Church" of Tarrytown, NY, formerly know as the "Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow" organized in 1697. Your line of Cronks are as follows: 1. Herck Sybouts born in Langendyck (Languedoc) about 1620 ( the records of his marriage and first two baptisms of his children give his name as Hendrick) came to New Amsterdam where he married Nov. 16 1642 Wyntje Theunis born in Naerdan, daughter of Theunis Thomas Quick surnamed de Metselaer of mason. They lived in New Amsterdam until 1654 when they moved to the Arme Bouwery at Hell gats, then a part of Newtown.L.I.
