Elizabeth Bingham was actually a Bingman, my ancestor, also spelled Bingaman and Bingeman. Her father, my direct ancestor, was John Bingman. John gave his consent for Elizabeth to marry Joseph Cronk (April 7, 1823 so she was probably born between 1802 and 1805). The surity for the bond was Henry Cronk. They married in Montgomery County VA and had 4 children. Jacob b 1824, Eli b 1825 and Benjamin b 1827 and were baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Floyd County VA. The 4th child Amanda was born March 1830 after or about the same time her father Joseph. The son Benjamin also apparently died prior to 1830. She then moved to Surry County NC and lived next door to her father John Bingman. In 1850 Elizabeth was in Highland County Ohio and by 1860 had moved to Dallas County, in Adel Township, IA where she live widowed son-in-law (husband to Amanda). By 1880 she was living her her son Eli Cronk in Union Township, Dallas County IA where she died in 1888. Eli was about the s! ame age as John Bingman's first born named John Bingman Jr. who in the 1850's moved to Dallas County IA near his "Aunt Elizabeth". I have a hard copy of Eli's obituary. What I am trying to find out is there a link between John Bingman of Surry County and other Bingman's known to be in Montgomery County at that time. Their last name was spelled Bingaman but shared first names such as John. Henry and Christian Bingaman lived for a considerable time in the area after the Revolutionary War. The other thing that puzzles me is the vast majority of marriages the groom marries at the daughter's home. John B. was in Surry County NC so why did she marry in Montgomery County VA? Do you know of other Cronks in Surry County? I was thinking that perhaps Elizabeth was staying with her Bingaman relatives which was also common at the time I would appreciate any historical information you have on the Cronks in VA or elsewhere.
