I have seen 33 spelling of this name in my research over 33 years. I have another researcher who claims to have seen 44 spelling of the name. My name Conkwright is the last know spelling of this name and my grandfather added the W, so it should have been Conkright. I reason so much name changing started it because of the Census that the British imposed on the Dutch when they take New Amsterdam from Dutch without firing a shot. That was for collecting money that the Dutch didn't wnat to pay to the King, so started the name changing. Herck Siboutsen, as the story goes, had one son that was very sick and dying. He was sick and pale so in honor of the son the name was first changed to the new spelling which mean "sick and pale". From that point the name changed over and over again. I go back to James Cronkright in VT and James changed his name before going from NY to VT from Jacob or Jacobus Kranckheid as found in NY records to Cronkright. This is why the name is so hard to research because of the name changes. If not for the Mckenzie Papers, as my mother I and coined them back in 1980, we may have all still been looking for our connections. It took me 19 years to make this connect and I had the Mckenzie from the very beginning of my research then it was just follow the trail to church records and other land records and wills. They settled first near Philadelphia, PA. Some of the family moved into Shenandoah Co., VA then into Floyd Co., VA and eventually on west to Indiana, Ohio, and Iowa. One branch of the family kept the surname as "Kronk". The surname evolved into "Cronk" for most of the families that moved into VA. I've also found the name spelled "Cronch" on a marriage record in HIghland Co., Ohio for one of this family line.

My relatives are actually German in origin. They have not been linked to this line." ?? Perhaps the area in Holland or the Netherlands that the "Sybout line" came drom was very close to the German border like my grandmother Mary Ellen GILLIS b: ABT 1877 and her parents Peter (Pierre) BIER and Louisa NUNNEMACHER ancestors from Weyer, Alsace Bas-Rhin, France and Zilling, Department Moselle(57), Region Lorraine, France who spoke German most of the time so we naturally thought that they were from Germany until more research revealed otherwise. As mentioned the other day, this list has just migrated to "Mailman," the new mailing list system at RootsWeb. Most changes will be hardly noticeable to you as a subscriber and fairly subtle, but the most obvious one will be to those of you who were subscribed in BOTH list mode as well as digest mode. Mailman does not support both modes to the same subscription address, so you are now subscribed only in list mode. If you want to subscribe to digest as well, then you will have to subscribe yourself using an alternate e-mail address. Those of you in ONLY list or digest mode are still subscribed as you were under the old system. Also, there is a brand new list just started for the purpose of asking questions and learning about the new system if you are interested in joining. I am a subscriber as well, but be forwarned that as you might expect it is VERY busy right now, so keep that in mind if you subscribe. You can send the usual "subscribe" message to: <mailto:list-update-l-request@rootsweb.com> list-update-l-request@rootsweb.com for list mode or <mailto:list-update-d-request@rootsweb.com> list-update-d-request@rootsweb.com for digest mode If you have any questions about the new system, that is the best place to ask them. You can also ask me off list if you wish, and I will always respond if I can, but please understand that even though I was one of the BETA testers, I am also learning the new system myself. David E. It appears to just be a family plot type of cemetery. It is in extremely bad shape. Unfortunately, around Cornwall, there are quite a few family cemeteries that are just falling into disrepair in the woods. I have a family one that is just off Rte 9W in Cornwall that to get to you have to go through people's property so you need permission then you have to tramp through the woods quite a bit. Don't know of any Saunders. Sorry. Robin
