Author: Shantelmc Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.cronk/529.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello - I'm sorry for chiming in here. My name is Shantel Cronk and I grew up in Montana. My Great Grandfather started our ranch 100 years ago and he originated in Iowa (fairfax). One of my father's cousin's did an extensive history of our Cronk family dating back generations and we all have books at home about it. I am at work and don't have the book here, but my grandfather and great grandfather both went by John Cronk and my great grandmother was a Rogers, but I believe her name was Elizabeth not Harriet. In our history we do go back to the Kronkytes. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hasn't anyone heard of the word kranky? That is where is comes from, and the Kronk spelling is the phonetic spelling of "krank" which is pronounced as "kronk" in German. I am a Cronk and my family is from Tennessee. My ggg-grandfather was William Alexander Cronk. My father always told us that we were German and that our name, at some point, was spelled Kronk. I have not been able to go back farther than William at this time and am having some trouble sorting out who is who in the late 1800s in Tennessee. Anyway I am interested in hearing more on the missing Kronk brother from Germany. Perhpas there is a link. Elaine Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ethelcronk Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.cronk/535/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello! Am looking for missing Cronks. My grandfather was Thomas Filmore Cronk who married Elizabeth Wallace (early 1900s). It appears that Thomas (and three siblings?) were living with their grandmother, Malissie (melissa)Cronk during the 1900 census. Malissie had 7 children - I believe that Joseph S died in 1963. Her remaining children George, Mary, Millard, Nella, Sarah, and Violet were living with her during the 1870 census. Nella "disappeared" during the 1880 census. Then in the 1990 census only Joe, Thomas, Lon E, and Martela are living with her - all grandchildren. I am hoping that someone knows this family and what the missing links are. Will share anything I know on the Cronks. Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
