Doug I take it that you have checked the address 14 Spring Gardens, "Great Bolton" up on the three English census covering this period. Do you have the reference for them? If there are any Electoral Roll records (Bolton Archives) they would only have the male house owner. This was pre council houseing so cash in hand and no records. Unless she had a court order against her. Have you got any certificates with this address on them or other address's she might have been? Derek I have a Birth Certificate with that address dated 26jan1849, and a Death Certificate dated 2apr1849. Plus Catherine, James & Mary Anne Crompton lived at "Spring Gardens" at the time of the 1841 Census. But there is another family there for the 1851 Census. Mary Crompton's (wife of James Crompton, the son of Catherine) immigration record in 1855 also says that she was from "Spring Gardens", and James & Mary's Marriage Certificate says that they were both from "Spring Gardens".
