Hello Doug and fellow listers, Does anyone know anything about an Ann CROMPTON who was born in Spain in 1844? In the 1851 census she is at Dinting Vale, Dinting with Josiah BARLEW and family, age 7, and is listed as 'niece'. >From then on until 1901 census she is at Dinting/Dinting Lane, Glossop. My interest is in finding out if she is indeed the daughter of Richard CROMPTON (b. 1819 Glossop and d. 1848 Hayfield) and Mary CASTLE, b. 1817 Glossop. If she is then I would like to know what they were doing in Spain and if she is not then I have to start again. She is with Mary CROMPTON (CASTLE) in most of the censuses and Mary is living with Ann and husband James LEE in, Dinting in the 1891census. How on earth did she become to be born in Spain? Carole You say that in the 1851 census Ann Crompton is at Dinting Vale, Dinting, with Josiah BARLEW and family, age 7, and is listed as 'niece'. If you can trust the usage of the word "niece", then that means one of her parents was a sibling of Josiah Barlew - doesn't it? Can't be her father, I guess. It must be her mother, then. So, was Mary Castle the sister of Josiah Barlew? Can only be the case, I would think, if Mary had been previously married to a Mr Castle, and he had died, before she presumably married Mr Crompton. No? -----Original Message----- From: crompton-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:crompton-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Noden Sent: Tuesday, 9 June 2009 4:07 am To: crompton@rootsweb.com Subject: [CROMPTON] Ann CROMPTON - Spain?
