Hello Doug, Thank you for your response to my query re Ann CROMPTON - Spain. The 1851 census does indeed show Ann CROMPTON being the 'niece' of the head of household, Josiah BARLEW (BARLOW). Since receiving your rmessage I have found a marriage for Josiah BARLOW and Nancy CASTLE - Hayfield - SeptQ 1842. It looks as though Ann CROMPTON might be the daughter of Richard CROMPTON and Mary CASTLE and Nancy is the sister of Mary. Richard CROMPTON died in 1848 aged 29 so perhaps the children stayed with more prosperous relatives. I have a couple more children of Richard and Mary - John born 1841 Dinting and George born 1846, Whitfield. This John and George were butchers in Stockport. I have also found, on Ancestry, a birth in Albacete Province, Spain, for Felipa Antonia (CROMPTON). This is on the Worldwide grade of Ancestry and unfortunately my subscription is for the basic grade which means that I cannot access the details of this birth to see if it might be the Ann CROMPTON I am looking for.
