    2. Doug I take it that you have checked the address 14 Spring Gardens, "Great Bolton" up on the three English census covering this period. Do you have the reference for them? If there are any Electoral Roll records (Bolton Archives) they would only have the male house owner. This was pre council houseing so cash in hand and no records. Unless she had a court order against her. Have you got any certificates with this address on them or other address's she might have been? I have just found the following on the net. Her father Richard was a papermaker and I wondered why the family would have gone from Dinting in Derbyshire to Spain. I think that the following answers that question. By the way there are another two CROMPTON females born in Spain in the 1881 census - Margaret and Mary Ann. Perhaps this was a reason for their family being there also. As youcan see there was also a spinning mill so I wonder how many others were recruited from Derbyshire to work there. Perhaps some young men who eventually stayed there and married local girls. ---- In the year 1842 Santiago Gosálvez installed, in the skirt of the population and to the right margin of the river in the municipal term of Houses of Benítez, a flour factory, another one of spinnings and 2ª factory in Spain of continuous paper. 3. Search with <<http://srwww.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/searchform.aspx?id=43>> This shows that the Sydney Morning Herald newspapers recorded the arrival of the passengers, and Miss COMPTON shows up there as CROMPTON. It was a common mistake to spell CRUMPTON, CAMPTON, COMPTON, CROMPTON all mixed up. No way of knowing what would have been correct. Aside from the records held by Australia, about the arrival of these vessels and their passengers, are there any UK records of departures? -----Original Message----- From: crompton-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:crompton-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dellcrom@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, 23 June 2009 3:15 pm To: crompton@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CROMPTON] Earl Selkirk Doug What makes you think that the after cabin passenger Miss COMPTON(alive1854) as per scan. 2. Noden
    3. Hello Ellen and Doug, Re Ann CROMPTON born Spain - I have just realised that the parent of Ann in the details that Ellen sent are Ricardo CROMPTON and Maria CALST and this would be Mary CASTLE who Richard did indeed marry at Marple in 1840. Mary's parents are given as Juan and Ana CALST. Again this is CASTLE as I already had Mary's parents as Johnathon CASTLE and Ann PLATT. Conclusion: The only connection to Spain is that Richard and Mary went there for some reason and had a child, Ann in 1844. They returned to England as Richard died here in 1848. Will try the Derbyshire list and see if someone can come up with a bright idea of why they might have gone to Spain. All the best, Carole -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter.
