    2. Stephen Curtis Crofutt was the brother of my paternal grandmother's mother, Idella Jane Crofutt. He also had two other sisters, Ellen Amelia Crofutt and Harriet Jane Crofutt. Stephen Curtis Crofutt was born August 29, 1841, and died at Gettsberg on July 1, 1863, according to his tombstone in the Putney-Oronoque Cemetary on the border of Stratford and Shelton, Connecticut, where he is buried with his parents, Samuel Crofutt, 3rd and Sarah Jane Culver. Samuel Crofutt was a twin of Susanna Crofutt. He and his sister were the 12th and 13th children on Samuel Crofutt, Jr., born Dec 4 1770 in Bethel, Connecticut, died Sept 29, 1861 in Derby, Connecticut, and Susannah Summers or Somers, born 1774, daughter of Benjamin Summers and Philena Shepard. They were married Feb 17, 1791 in Danbury, CT. Samuel was the son of Samuel Crofut, born 1734 in Danbury, CT, died 1831 in Bethel, CT and Sarah Seeley, born 1743 in Bethel, CT, died Nov 28, 1870 in Danbury. Samuel was the son of Josiah Crofut and Sarah Benedict. Sarah Seeley was the daughter of James Seeley, born July 29, 1722, died Dec 5, 1809 and who served in the Revolutionary War and Hannah. Stephen's sister, Idella, born September 29, 1852 in Oronoque (part of Stratford, CT) married Lewis Walter Booth, born Jan 31, 1851 in Trumbull, CT. Idella and Lewis are also buried in the Putney-Oronoque Cemetary. They had 5 children, one of which was my paternal grandmother, Clara Edna Booth. My cousin, Stephen, has the original copies of poignant letters written by Stephen Curtis Crofutt to his sister and parents during the Civil War and a letter from his commanding office notifying them of his death. I have copies of the letters. Margaret Tucker Monnie
