>From all materials I have found on the Crowfoot/Crofoot/Crofut (and others) name, the Crowfoot name is how it was spelled by Joseph Crowfoot, the apparent immigrant from England. A few generations later (as happened in my line) the "w" was dropped and several spelling variations occurred. Has anyone yet found out more about his parentage and lineage? This has been a mystery up till now. Apparently there have been Native Americans who have married Crofoots (all spellings). But I have seen no evidence that Joseph Crowfoot was Native American. The name is supposedly from Crawford and there were many variations of that in England. Also, please correct me if I am wrong, but I have never heard of a Crowfoot tribe. I have heard of Blackfoot and Crow tribes. If someone has specific information of a Crowfoot tribe, I would love to hear about it. Susan Davis Medford, OR ----- Original Message -----
There was a Blackfoot Chief named Crowfoot. You can get a biography on him at the library. It is an interesting and sad story. I think this may be where the Indian confusion comes in.
