    2. Pat, My ancestor, Samuel Crofut, Jr born Dec 4, 1770, was married on Feb 17, 1791 in Danbury, CT to Susannah Somers (a/k/a Summers), born in 1774. They had 13 children. The seventh was Russell Crofut, born May 18, 1800. Perhaps your Russell was a child of this Russell or of one of his 5 other brothers. His last brother, Samuel, the 3rd, (often called Jr.) who was my ancestor, did not have any children named Russell.. The LDS website has a Russell D. Crofut, born Sept 15, 1800, in CT, died Jan 30, 1904, but no parents are listed. The 1880 census has a Russel , born aabout 1817 in Ct, listed in Illinois. Is this yours? I will let you know if I come across another Russell. Margaret Monnie

    3. Thanks Margaret, Yes, that is probably my Russell in Illinois as the whole family moved to Sandwich, IL from Turin New York and that's where his son Dwight met his wife, Minnie Chapman (my g-grandparents). Amazing how the census takers can get the wrong dates, but it was close. Now if I can find out about your Russell's sibling's children, I might find my Russell's parents. I'll have to check with the Barbour Collection to see if I can find all of Samuel and Susanna's children listed. The LDS reference is my Russell, only he was born in 1815, not 1800. One of these days, he will turn up in someone's records! Best wishes, Pat
