I'm still in shock over your email! Yes, my husbands family had a John Wesley Shaffer. He was my husbands, Great grandfather. I have him listed as being born in May(?) of 1880, married Sept 24, 1901 to Hattie May Delong, in Castleton Twp., Barry Co. Michigan. John was the son of George A. Shaffer (Oct 13, 1833 - March 31, 1903) and Mary Crofoot/ Crawfoot..( June 1846 - Jan. 1928) Do these names and dates match with yours? According to the Barry Co. Mich. census of 1900 and 1910, Mary bore 5 children. I'm not sure of all the names, however, I have found a son, Frankie Shaffer, (Aug/12/1887 - Feb 9, 1891) buried with George and Mary in Barryville Cemetery, Castleton Twp. Barry.Co. MI. Also found, our Nancy Crofoot, buried in the same cemetery as Mary, George, Frankie, John, and John's wife, Hattie. Nancy Crofoot's tombstone reads: DOB: Feb 16, 1816, DOD: Nov. 15, 1895 In a census from 1880, I found George and Mary Shaffer listed along with children as being, John Shaffer and Step daughter, Emma Viers. According to this one, the children were both born in Ohio. (other census say MI.) If I remember correctly, I checked into this, and found Mary with another man, last name Viers, in Henry Co. Ohio. This made me really curious as I had also found another message on Genealogy.com's board, In re: to a Johann Martin Shaffer. Her name is Marilyn Spohn. Maybe she will have information that the two of you can share on the Viers... Not only did the Viers name catch my attention, but believe it or not...She has the same last name as my maiden name! Pretty odd... tracing my husbands heiratage, and finding out that our ancestors may have beat us to the punch! LOL!!! My brother in law will be sending me more family info shortly, and maybe it'll shed some light on this family. I looked for Conah Crofoot, but like you, didn't get much info. Just that his DOB is approx. 1808 in Vermont and he married Nancy approx. 1835, who was of Ohio.... Thanks so much for replying back to my message Judy! Keep in touch, as will I with you. And do try contacting Marilyn Spohn... I really think you two have alot of related anncestors! BTW: Yes.. Mary was native american... Crow Indian may have had blackfoot in her also. My sister- in - law said they were never suppose to mention that fact when they were children! Keep in touch! Debbie
