Thank you so much for the information! I have Mabel Crofut married to Munson or Monson Keeler on 3/20/1825 and her death about June of 1832 in Danbury. I don't know where these dates came from but I am still searching. Now my next question, Do you have a listing for a Huldah A Crofut alive during 1864? I ask this because of the following: Munson and Mabel (Crofut) Keeler had three children Nathan , Mabel and Samuel Crofut Keeler. Nathan Keeler married Ellen (Elenor) Hickerson they had two children Francis(Frank) and Estella. Ellen died while the children were young and left Nathan with the children to raise alone. Nathan went to war in 1863 and had to leave those children with someone and we believe that it was a Crofut relative. Nathan was killed in 1864 in VA and soon after there was application made for his pension. A Huldah A Keeler is listed as wife applicant and under minor comments the name Huldah A Crofut (GDN) is listed. I have not sent for the records but I am quessing that this Huldah was the one taking care of the children. I don't find any marriage listing yet so I am wondering if she applied for the pension to take care of the children. Maybe she was a Keeler and married a Crofut? Lots of questions needing answers. Thanks for any help you have and can give me Carley
I will return to the office on Thursday, July 18 and will respond to your email then.
Carley, Seeley Crofutt, born March 13, 1768, was the first child of Samuel Crofutt and Abigail Seeley. He was half brother to your Mabel. He became the first deacon of the Towanda Creek Baptist Church in Bradford County, PA
Carley, Samuel Crofutt, born 1734 in Danbury, CT, died 1831 in Bethel, CT (next to Danbury) was my gggggrandfather. Samuel Crofut, son of Josiah and Sarah (Benedict) Crofut, born in 1734 in Danbury, Conn., died in 1831 (age 98) married 1st, Sarah, daughter of Lieut. James and Hannah Seeley, of Bethel, on May 28, 1767 (born 1743 died 1780): 2nd, Abigail Seeley of Fairfield on August 2, 1781 (she died before 1806); 3rd, when past seventy years of age, Lucy Jane (Davern) Patchen (sister-in-law of his son Eri) and by her had four children, Moses, Aaron, Mabel, and Lydia and survived to see his grandchildren by this marriage. (Wm. S. Crofutt proprietor of the Bassett House in Derby some years ago, was a grandson of Moses. (Of his children by Sarah) The girls all died young; unmarried. Samuel Crofut served in the Bethel Militia during the Danbury Attack and was drafted into Washington's army on May 1, 1778, was discharged January 1, 1779 (Conn. Hist. Soc. Col. Revolutionary Lists and Returns, vol 12 page 124). He lived in the wildcat district of Bethel, now Elmwood (cellar of house still can be seen) and was a member of the Bethel Congregational Church, but engaging in a violent controversy with Ensign Theophilus Hoyt over the abrogation of the "Halfway Covenant" was expelled despite the fact that his father-in-law Deacon Seeley was the church's leading pillar. In politics he was a bitter Jeffersonian Democrat and never forgave his son Eri for turning Federalist. He was married three times- 1) to Sarah Seeley,on May 28, 1767, from whom I am descended through their son, Samuel, Jr. 2)Abigail Seeley, on Aug 2, 1781, (thought to be Sarah.s sister) I don't know if she had prior children or if they had any children together. 3)Lucy Jane Davern Patchen, date and place unknown. Lucy was the sister-in-law of his son Eri. (Eri was the fifth of six children of the first marriage to Abigail) Samuel and Lucy had: Moses, Aaron, Mabel, Lydia. This is probably your Mabel Crofutt. The dates are right. I don't know who Huldah was but will contact you if I come across any info Margaret Monnie

Maria died in July 1837. they had a daughter Sarah Maria b.June 1837. He then married Annie van Tassell in 1838. They had Clarissa Ann b. 1839. All of the above was in Lee, Berkshire, Massachusetts, as they showed in the 1840 Census (US Federal) in Berkshire, Massachusetts. i have further information on 2 more daughters, if you are interested in sharing. we were wondering how they arrived in Mississippi. We thought they might have traveled down the Mississippi River. Bill Byrd
I found this marriage listing , I have no further information and I hope this helps with someone's research. Barkhamsted CT Marriages as found in Early Connecticut Marriages by Frederick Bailey 1787 to 1804 The town of Barkhamsted was incorporated Oct. 1779. The Congregational Church was organized April 20, 1781. Rev. Ozias Eeus was pastor from 1787 to 1813 Seelye Crofut of Danbury & Hannah C. Holcomb, April 12, 1790
I am a little stumped and maybe someone can help me figure some of this out or point me in a direction to look. I am researching the Keeler family of CT. I have found a reference to a Munson Keeler who married a Mabel Crofut daughter of Samuel Crofut and a Lucy Jane (Delivan?) Mabel was born about 1807 and married Munson (or Monson) Keeler on March 20, 1825 place unknown but we believe it was near Danbury CT area. Mabel died June of 1832 I have a listing of three children for them Nathan B Keeler b 1826 Samuel Crofut Keeler b. 1828 Mabel Keeler b. 1831 On researching Nathan B Keeler, we find under his civil war pension application the following information: Widow: Huldah A Keeler ????? applied Nov 1864 Minor: Huldah A Crofut (Gdn) applied Nov 1864 could this be Guardian? Nathan Keeler was married to Ellen or Eleanor Hickerson who died before he went to war. She left Nathan with minor children Francis and Estelle? We have these names from Eleanor's will. Who is Huldah A Crofut? How is she related to this Keeler family and did she have custody of Nathan's children? Was she married to Nathan? Engaged to Nathan? or just legal guardian to the children and applied for pension as his wife? Lots of questions here. Can anyone help shed some light on this? Thanks Carley
