I have some Crofoot's that were from Medina... My GGGrandmother was Mary I. Crofoot who married Hiram Marks in 1837. She had 9 siblings, one of which was a Charles Crofoot. This Charles Crofoot was married to Sarah Ann Huntsberger in 1849. They had at least 3 children John, Mary & Martha. John was a stonemason in Medina. According to my grandfather Ambrose Crofoot was the father of these 10 children and moved to Ohio in the early 1800s. They were originally from Cayuga County, NY. Four of the oldest children stayed in NY Le'me know if any of this sound familiar. I'm also from Ohio (Newark) but now live in NJ. Hi Linda, Do you live in Medina County? I live in Ashland Co. and my library has some Medina Co. resources. My ancestors were Crofutt and unfortunately didn't live in Ohio, but we all descend from Joseph Crowfoot of Springfield MA. From my draft genealogy: The surname Crofutt is a variant of Crawford: one who came from Crawford (Crow’s Pass) in Lancashire, a dweller near a river crossing where crows were seen. The Crofutt family tree is one of the four main trunks of my pedigree, ending with my Mother Florence Elizabeth Crofutt who died in 1988. That line has been traced through nine generations to Joseph Crowfoot who was born in England about 1630/35 possibly in or near Lowestoft, or Beccles, Suffolk. As a very young man he found passage to America working as a servant, settling in Springfield MA where he became a Freeman in 1672. FAMILY LINE - Joseph's male descendants in our line migrated: James Crowfoot 1666-1724 from Springfield to Norwalk then Danbury CT, Jonah 1696-1763 (also called Josiah 1st) from Norwalk to Danbury, Josiah 2nd 1730-1783 the first to be recorded as "Crofutt" spending his life in Danbury, Josiah 3rd 1769-1876 migrating from Danbury to New Milford. Susquehanna County PA, Frederick G. 1806-1863 moving on from New Milford to Bradford County PA possibly Burlington, George Clinton 1844-1922 from Granville Bradford County to McNett Township in Lycoming County, and Charles Henry 1881-1969 from West Franklin Bradford County to Elmira NY to Avon Park FL.

January 28, 1825. They had other siblings as well. Father is listed as Lyman CROFUT b. April 24, 1797, Danbury,CT. m. Ann Eliza VANDEUSEN(VANDUSEN)on February 18, 1822. She born to William VAN DEUSEN(VAN DUSEN) March 24, 1806, in New Jersey. Lyman and Ann Eliza had Mary Ann, William Henry, George Washington, Charles LEnt, Amanda Elizabeth, Benson, Susan Ann (m. Fredrick STOW (E)), John Pisal, Lewis Beers, Benjamin Franklin, Eliza Ann. The births spanned from 1823 through 1851. I have been unable to find any information re: Ann Eliza VANDEUSEN. If any Crofut searchers out there know any more info it is greatly accepted. With all of these children there must be some searchers with the information we need. I live in PA, in Bradford County, near Ulster, Leroy, Shunk, Canton, Towanda. I do know that my CT. Crofuts are related to the Bradford County, PA Crofuts but back in CT. There is no Crofut genforum, though I perhaps should have tried other spelling. Samuel 's father, Josiah, was the son of James Crofutt and Persis Gregory. James was the son of Joseph Crowfoot and Mary Hillier. Samuel Crofut, son of Josiah and Sarah (Benedict) Crofut, born in 1734 in Danbury, Conn., died in 1831 (age 99) married 1st, Sarah, daughter of Lieut. James and Hannah Seeley, of Bethel, on May 28, 1767 (born 1743 died 1780): 2nd, Abigail Seeley of Fairfield on August 2, 1781 (she died before 1806); 3rd, when past seventy years of age, Lucy Jane (Davern) Patchen (sister-in-law of his son Eri) and by her had four children, Moses, Aaron, Mabel, and Lydia and survived to see his grandchildren by this marriage. Samuel and Sarah had Samuel, Cloa, Eunice, Eri, and Ruth. Eri married Betsey Davern, daughter of John Davern, believed to be of County Mayo, Ireland and Lois Knapp. Betsey was the sister of Samuel's third wife, Lucy Jane Davern Patchen, who was the mother of your Mabel. My gggfa, Samuel's grandson, also Samuel Crofutt, who died Aug 15, 1865, was buried in the Putney and Oronoque Cemetery on the border of Stratford and Shelton, CT His name on his gravestone is spelled "Crofutt".
