    2. All of my research has let to the immigration of Crawford from the Scottish lands, migrating to England, settling and aquiring lands. Joseph Crowfoot, as a shipmate, came to New America, settling in the Ct area, In later years, through, migration and the beginging of the Crowfoot name, known at that time, and different spellings that have been derived through Cencus records and such. During the War, those Crofuts, left NY and moved into Canada, later to move back, there is tribes of Crows of in this area at that time that intermingled. The Crowfoots, ie,, Crofut, moved into Mich. and Ind, and states to the West....There have been marrieages of Crowfoot in the early years to the Native Americans in CT, NY, PA, etc If anyone would like particular info on above statement, feel free to contact me at Crowfoot3@aol.com

    3. The Crofoot name is not native american, as far as anyone has found, and there is not any connection to it with indian lineage, either. Just because it "sounds" indian, there is a predispostion to believe it must be. Perhaps also, people want to think that they are decendants of native americans? The blackfoot and Crow tribes are all located in Montana, and at that time, they lived totally isolated from the people in the American settlements. There were no white visitors to the northwestern plains, as in the area of Montana that the crow and blackfoot tribes lived, until early in the 1800's (ie- Lewis and Clark) I think it would be better served for all of the decendants of the Crofoot clan to focus on how the original Crofoot or Crowfoot or Crawfoot or Crawfut, etc, came to America. I am, as I am sure all of you are, very interested in continuing in the true search of the ancestry of the crofoot line. --- Susan Davis <sukie1941@charter.net> wrote: > >From all materials I have found on the > Crowfoot/Crofoot/Crofut (and others) > name, the Crowfoot name is how it was spelled by Joseph > Crowfoot, the > apparent immigrant from England. 3. There was a Blackfoot Chief named Crowfoot. You can get a biography on him at the library. It is an interesting and sad story. I think this may be where the Indian confusion comes in. 2. I do not have any idea where the native american lore was started. Here is what I do know as fact. My father Billy Ed Crofut (d. 1998)married my mother Louina R Haynes who is a full blood Muscogee(Creek)indian. My sister Donna and I are 1/2 Creek indian. I heard from my grandmother Clara Golightly Crofut d. 2002 that on the Golightly side of the family (maternal)they had some Choctaw and Cherokee from her great grandmother. Sorry this doesn't help much, but it is the indian blood in this line of the Crofuts.

A few generations later (as happened in my line) the "w" was dropped and several spelling variations occurred. Has anyone yet found out more about his parentage and lineage? This has been a mystery up till now. Apparently there have been Native Americans who have married Crofoots (all spellings). But I have seen no evidence that Joseph Crowfoot was Native American. The name is supposedly from Crawford and there were many variations of that in England. Also, please correct me if I am wrong, but I have never heard of a Crowfoot tribe. I have heard of Blackfoot and Crow tribes. If someone has specific information of a Crowfoot tribe, I would love to hear about it. Susan Davis Medford, OR ----- Original Message -----
