    3. Wednesday, August 04, 2004, you wrote: I researched Malcolm Crofoot several years ago and I have not looked at it for some time. I am trying to find info on Samantha Sackett Lovejoy who married Malcolm's son, Gideon and her child, Andrew, born prior to her marriage to Gideon. I tried to learn when and where she may have met Gideon in an effort to learn her parents and the name of her Lovejoy husband. If anyone has addtional info, census data, etc. please post it. Unfortunately I did not reference my research very well, as this was one of the first lines I started studying. Most info came from "The Crofoot Genealogy" compiled by George E. Crofoot, May 1954, and Beer's Historical Gazetteer of Genesee Co., NY. From my notes: Malcolm Crofoot was born 1755 probably in what is now Vernon, Windham Co., Vermont. The town is on the Connecticut River and the statehood and boundaries changed repeated until Vt became a state. At one time Vernon was part of MA, NH, and I believe NY. I have not found documentation of his birth, nor his marriage record to Sophia Knapp. I tried the town clerk and looking Vernon's history. I believe the area was NH at the time of his birth and marriage. His father may have spelled his surname Crawford, came from Scotland and lived in Massachusetts. He married Sophia Knapp born in 1758. They had nine children: 1. Lois b. ?26 Nov 1781 married Thomas Searls, Williamstown, Berkshire Co., MA 2. Martha (Patti) before 1785 3. Benjamin b. 1785 Vernon, VT m. Polly Willi bef. 1818 died 23 Nov 1868 Lake Co. , Ohio Mary died 4 Dec 1867, Perry, Lake Co., Ohio 4. Joel b. 1786 d. 1865, Pavilion, Genessee Co. NY 5. Waity b.1790, NY married Henry Mc Cormick bef. 1822 died 10 Nov 1866 Chesaning, Saginaw Co., MI 6. Rebecca b. 1791 married Eli Carr died in Michigan 7. Gideon b. 1795 (? Albany Co. NY) married Samantha Sackett Lovejoy died 23 Nov. 1868 in Painesville, Lake Co., Ohio 8. Orilla born 21 July 1797 Saratoga Co., NY married Charles Hemenway died 8 Nov 1887, Perry, Lake Co., Ohio Charles died before 1833. M2 John Roberts. 9. Dudley Emerson 23 Feb 1800 Saratoga Co., NY married Edith Bates, died Leroy, Lake Co., Ohio Malcolm was a Second Major in the NY militia in Saratoga or Albany County. "In 1812 Malcolm moved with his family to Cayuga Co., NY where they remained (un)til 1816 when they moved to Pavilion, Genessee Co., NY. The older son, Joel married and spent the rest of his life in Genessee Co. Malcolm and Sophia with other family members of the family moved westward to Lake Co. (then Geauga) Ohio where they arrived in 1816 0r (1818)....Malcolm died while living with his son, Benjamin, who was administrator of his estate." source: "The Crofoot Genealogy" From personal correspondence dated 20 June 2002 with Kristina Reese, Sartoga Co. Historian: "Malcolm Crawfort is listed in the Town of Saratoga in the 1790 Census: 1 male 16+, 2 males under 16, 3 females. 1800 Census, Town of North Umberland, Malcolm Croofoot 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 26-45, 3 females to 10, 2 females 10-16, 1 female 26-45 1810 Census North Umberland, Malcum Crawfoot 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 45+, 1 female under 10, 1 female 16-25 and 1 female 45+." In my notes I have Malcolm as being in Cayuga Co. in 1812 and in 1815 records in Cayuga Co. show Malcolm living in the town of Scipio. Obituary for Andrew Crofoot show Malcolm and family arriving in Painesville,Ohio between 1819 and 1820. That's all for now folks. Cindy Cairns mailto:cindy@pshift.com

    3. Well, I thought that I had a Charles Bidwel Crofutt listed somewhere. I looked and found him. He is listed as being born about 1837 in New Milford, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. (There were a number of New England Crofutts and Crofuts who moved "west" to PA in the early 1800s). Anyway I have this Charles married to a Sarah Roberts. They had Dewitt Crofutt. I have Charles Bidwell's parents as Ezra Crofutt born 1809 in New Milford, Susquehanna, PA. Died Sept. 15, 1892 in Esbon, Jewell County, Kansas. Ezra first married an Olive Eudorah PARKS. Then married to Almyra JACKSON, born about 1814 in Vermont. Charles is their offspring as well as Lydia Helen, Mary Melvina, and Alfred Parmer. I have other Charles Crofutt, Crofuts born later in the 1800s. I had a granduncle Charles Crofut but he was born in CT but went West or South per family lore. After he left no one in the Eastern family ever heard from him again that I know of. Good luck!
