Author: rsbo Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crofoot/426.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The "documentation" I have for the marriage date comes from Mary's obituary. It was in agreement with the information I had received earlier (basically undocumented FGRs). As for location? Either IL or MO. Their oldest daughter was 2 (b. in MO) in the 1860 census. The conclusive link for Eli to Gideon and Samantha was his parents divorce papers, when he was named as a child of theirs. Author: ljanemitakides Surnames: Crofoot, Michael Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crofoot/426.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Where were Eli and Mary married? I would like to copy the documentation for this event. Also, what is the linking document that shows Eli as Gideon's son? Was there a will? Baptismal/birth record? Bible? I am preparing a genealogy for my cousin, and would like to have these sources. If I know where the information came from, I can get copies. I have been unable to find documentation, and I'm guessing that the wedding and birth dates came from a family Bible, but I don't know. I really appreciate your help. Author: rsbo Surnames: crofoot, michael, sackett Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crofoot/426.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, I have quite a bit of information on Eli Crofoot and his family. He married Mary Magdalene Michael, dau of John Michael and Mary Consore, on 1 Jan 1856. Eli is the son of Gideon Crofoot and Samantha Sackett. I can't prove when Eli was born. I know his gravestone says 1823 which agrees with later census records, but early records (1850 census in IL & parents divorce decree) would indicate probably born ca 1827/28. His middle name was Dudley. He served with the MO State Militia Cav as a blacksmith during the war. He apparently married a woman named Mary, whose maiden name might have been Michael. Does anyone know if this is Gideon's son? Any source proof? He was Eli D. I have a great grandmother who was living with the Pittsleys in 1870. She was born in 1864/65. Her name at that household is Viola Tompkins. She was married once before she married my great grandfather,Benjamin Isaac Schouten. I believe the person she married had the surname of Chapin. She was full blooded Native American from the Seneca. At the time she was small, she lived in Broome Cty with the Pittsleys. I think her father may have been Levi Tompkins. There are many Schoutens early on in the Cortland and Broome Cty area, it seems. Somewhere along the line, my Aunts and Uncles began dropping the "h" in their surname. Don't know why. I believe that I have relatives currently living in the Cicero area in Onondaga Cty.
