Certain websites can't handle their volume nor have sufficient technical personnel for all their servers. From a technical viewpoint , Ellis Island Records (EIR) is running their servers on Windows 2000 (NT) Despite glowing promises from Microsoft Corporation, Win 2000 is not the most robust choice for a site which is obviously very busy. And Oracle 8i server database houses their immigration records. EIR has acknowleged the need for more servers (computers), or servers that can support more processors. Either try them later or use the SP Morse EIR access. In the same vein, LDS Family History Library in SLC UT experiences Windows 2000 Microsoft-IIs/5.0 problems from time to time. This is an internal Microsoft Commerce server problem which prevents access to their online FHC catalog at certain times.

    3. The Stephen Morris web page actually accesses records via the "regular" Ellis web page. So if the regular page is down, as it has been off and on for the last couple of weeks then http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/ellis/ellis.html will not work.
