    3. Basically anyplace that labor was needed these Croatian who came prior to WW I found work. Of course the American Folk Hero Joe Magarac was no doubt patterned after these immigrants. Magarac is of course the Croatian word for donkey or jackass. ja si ti magarac thus is not a derogatory question to ask a Croatian, as these people were as strong as a magarac! http://www.whsd.k12.pa.us/ri/gifted/rankin/ethnicityfolkheroes.htm Robert Jerin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nicholas Haramija" <nharamija@comcast.net> To: <CROATIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 20, 2002 1:31 PM Subject: Re: [CROATIA-L] Pittsburg and St. Louis industries? > James; "Westinghouse Electric" was and is a large employer in that area. > Plant extends from East Pittsburgh, Turtle Creek Wilmerding, Pitcairn and > Trafford all along Turtle Creek.
