Hello Sandy, I am also new to the list! > Sandy Laurie wrote: > > > > Hi . . . I'm new to the list. I've always thought my maternal gr grandfather was of Slovenian descent . . . now I'm not so sure. Relatives on the family farm in Slovenija tell me he bought the farm in the late 1880's. I know he was in the US several times to work. In 1904 he traveled with cousins who were from Zagorje. This area looks to be right over the border in Croatia, not far from the farm in Slovenija. The area you are speaking of is north of Zagreb and there are some listings for Kriznik in that area, which is Krapina-Zagorje. However this is not near Ogulin which was mentioned in another post. Are you certain it was Zagorje, Croatia? There are several places in Slovenia by this name. Here is info from Ellis Is for someone from Zagorje, Steiermark, Kriznik, Videk Austria, Steiermark, Slovenian Zagorje, Steiermark March 07, 1907 If the above place is the Zagorje here is the location in Slovenia.
