Robert, while in Italian they may refer to him as Vico, this is a short informal form not used in official records. Until not so long ago these informal forms would not have been used in telephone books, passports etc. Just as f.i. Bill Clinton was sworn in as William, not as Bill. At times the church had rules about acceptable baptismal names. And the state has its own rules. In Italy the son could not be given his father's first name. I do not know whether this rule is still in force. In Croatia since independence the baby cannot be given more than one first name and there there is no custom of so called middle name. Tatjana
