Use the National Archives, a Mormon Family History Center, or the Illinois State Archives to find any petitions for naturalization and naturalization papers. They are very informative, and sometimes even include a snapshot. The Newberry Library and the Chgo. Public Library both have copies of the Chgo. City Directory back to the end of the 19th c. The listing will give you address and occupation. The 1910 and 1920 census is available through Mormon Family History Centers and the National Archives. Census records also have a lot of interesting information. The Cook County Circuit Court Clerk has archived probate, will, and chancery records. The Illinois State Archives has quite a bit of miscellaneous archived information too. There is also an order of Croatian Francisican monks who have a monastery in Chicago with a lot of archived general info, and information on individual immigrants. Don't know their website offhand, but can get it for you if you can't find it doing a 'search'. You can call or write them for information. All of the sources I've mentioned have websites, but if I remember correctly you may have to pay a personal visit to the Newberry Library Library and the State Archives to obtain any information, but check out the website to find out for certain.
