I received a marriage record for my gggrandparents and they were married in Faro, Portugal. On it the groom, my gggrandfather, is a widower of Antonia BIXAXE, deceased of Trieste. It also says my gggrandfather is from Cherso (which is now Cres) State of the German Empire(interesting). The priest apparently spelled Bixaxe as it sounded. Heads up! EllisIslandRecords.com listed the arrival date of the Martha Washington as Sept. 4, 1911. Microfilm reels are categorized by arrival dates. When I was unable to find the ship Martha Washington on the microfilm reel for that date, an Archives worker looked up the Martha Washington in a book of arrivals and found that it arrived Sept. 6, 1911. Sept. 6 was recorded on the next reel of microfilm. This was my first time perusing ship manifests on microfilm. The other thing of note I might pass along is that it took two to four days to log all of the passengers on some of the larger ships. So the Passenger Arrival book says Sept. 3 for a few pages, then Sept. 4, and then Sept. 5, etc. All for the same ship. My recommendation would be that when you are ordering microfilm from the LDS Library for ship manifests, it might be prudent to order three reels rather than one. The one you want, the one before and the one after. I would have been disappointed had I ordered the film, waited a couple of weeks for it to arrive, raced to the library with excitement on the day it arrived, only to find that it wasn't the correct reel. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Jolie PS: I am gathering a substantial file of information about Radosevic(h) families in America and about Croatian immigrants in general. It is interesting to track the trends that appear. The majority of the Radosevic men, and later families, came from Mrkopalj and Lic/Lie/Lice/Lokve (spelled a variety of ways on the various ship manifests; might be different villages). A few each from Delnice and Ogulin. A couple of people each from Donji Kosinj, Novigrad, Gorski Kotar, Kosin, and Darnvar. Some of the communities they left in Croatia appear to be logging regions. However, they went to coal mining communities when they arrived, with very few exceptions: Gallup, NM (Mines); Duluth/Virginia/and Hibbing, MN (Mines); Birmingham, AL (Mines); Rock Springs, WY (Mines); Toluca, Marshall Co., IL (Mines); McKees Rocks, PA (Mills); and Chicago, IL (Mills). __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Dear Listers, I don't know if you can help me but since my grandmother must have had at least 3 places of birth listed on different documents, I am very confused! On one document it was listed as Cetskovac, Nova Bukovica, Yugoslavia. My grandmother was unable to read or write English at the time so someone must have written it for her as to how it sounded to them. Can this be the same as Cvetkovic or is there a place called Cetskovac? the other places listed were Balincina, Bukovica, Yugoslavia & just Bukovica. She was married in Nasice. Thanks for any help.
