I recently talked to a distant relative who said our families came from northern Selce in a place called Salligroud . She has no idea how to spell this. Her father was a Loncaric as was my g Grandfather. Her father best friend was an Antic brother to my g Grandmother. When I asked her how we were related she said that her father had told her where they came from everyone was a Loncaric or an Antic. Is there any information on his town. Also can someone send me the address where I would write for marriage records etc. Thank you Michelle

I was wondering if anyone could give me a few words of congratulations in Croatian to send a super Croatian woman who was just named Wisconsin Debate Coach of the Year? (Who says we're not gifted in the art of persuasive argument?!?) Thanks so much and forgive the off-topic intrusion, Peg

The Croatian telephone directory lists 2 surname Maragunic' under Split. Directory lists 1 surname Peruzovic' under Milna and 27 surnames under Split. Directory also lists 204 surname Martinic' under Splitsko county. Otok Brac^ is located in the Split region. The LDS filmed the parish church records at the regional Croatian State Archives, many of whose records end in 1880s and earlier. For Milna only 1825-1872. You will need to write the local registry office (matic^ni ured) in Croatian for your later surname records. address Matic^ni Ured Bol Uz Pjacu 4 21420 Bol Hrvatska (Croatia)
My grandmothers name was Rusa and everyone called her Rosie Virginia
I am looking for information on the Martinic and Marangunic families from Bobovica and Peruzovic from Milna, both on the island of Brac. I have found much in the parish records avaiable on microfilm from the Family History Library, but there are signifigant gaps. I need information from Bobovisca for 1855 to 1910 and from Milna for 1875 to 1910. I would like to trace the family of my grandfather, Mateo Martinic, and find the date of his marriage to my grandmother, Eufemia Peruzovic. My grandmother was previously married to a man named Marangunic and I would like to learn his first name. Thank you, Don MarÝinich

Use the National Archives, a Mormon Family History Center, or the Illinois State Archives to find any petitions for naturalization and naturalization papers. They are very informative, and sometimes even include a snapshot. The Newberry Library and the Chgo. Public Library both have copies of the Chgo. City Directory back to the end of the 19th c. The listing will give you address and occupation. The 1910 and 1920 census is available through Mormon Family History Centers and the National Archives. Census records also have a lot of interesting information. The Cook County Circuit Court Clerk has archived probate, will, and chancery records. The Illinois State Archives has quite a bit of miscellaneous archived information too. There is also an order of Croatian Francisican monks who have a monastery in Chicago with a lot of archived general info, and information on individual immigrants. Don't know their website offhand, but can get it for you if you can't find it doing a 'search'. You can call or write them for information. All of the sources I've mentioned have websites, but if I remember correctly you may have to pay a personal visit to the Newberry Library Library and the State Archives to obtain any information, but check out the website to find out for certain. Good luck! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elaine Sharp" <bellemarco@hotmail.com> To: <CROATIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2001 10:59 PM Subject: [CROATIA-L] Antonio Maver > I am trying to find information for someone on the island of Cres who is > searching for U.S.records of her ggrandfather, Antonio Maver, who, according > o the Ellis Island records, came here on the ship La Bretagne 5/10/1903, > Port of Departure - La Havre, France and went to Chicago IL. Thanks, Roanne. I have contacted someone to check the directories for me but will be a little difficult to ascertain which Antonio they are listing. Hopefully census will help. Am trying to find someone to help with death record. The Lablich is Sablich. Interesting, here in the US we are trying to find our Cherso/Cres roots; on my visit to Cherso/Cres, they are trying to find our about their American families. Ellie
Elaine Try to find someone to look-up the 2206 Wentworth Ave. address in the Chicago city directories. Try the 1910 Federal Census index. Both Antonio Mavers on that ship gave that address as that of their fathers-in-law, Antonio and Nadal (?) Lablich (?). The surname Lablich doesn't seem right though, it doesn't turn up in either the U.S. or Croatian phone directories. Illinois should have death records for the early 1900s. Good luck Roanne > I am trying to find information for someone on the island of Cres who is > searching for U.S.records of her ggrandfather, Antonio Maver, who, according > o the Ellis Island records, came here on the ship La Bretagne 5/10/1903, > Port of Departure - La Havre, France and went to Chicago IL. I am trying to find information for someone on the island of Cres who is searching for U.S.records of her ggrandfather, Antonio Maver, who, according o the Ellis Island records, came here on the ship La Bretagne 5/10/1903, Port of Departure - La Havre, France and went to Chicago IL. According to these records, he was a widower. There are 4 Antonio Maver's on this site but the one who is 35 is her ggrandfather. She believes he died in the early 1900's. I notice a few of the people from Cherso/Cres, Fiume, etc. went to the same address is Chicago, which I assume must have been a boarding house?? Can anyone give me guidance on how I can get more information on this Antonio Maver for her? Thank you. Ellie
