You could send an email to the following: povijesni-arhiv-zg@zg.tel.hr Drzavni Arhives and they will advise you where the records are held in Croatia. They understand english and will tell you exactly where to write to in Croatia. So write as much as you know such as the village. name of the person (father's and mother's name if known) year etc. Make sure you ask if there is an email adress as well. Once you receive this information you can either write or email them for more information. You may have to write in Croatian and if so ask Frank (List administrator) for a standard letter asking for information in Croatian which he will email out to you. The LDS have a web page with tells you what films are available to view if you go to: http://familysearch.org/ then go to Search the Family History Library Catalog for records and resources go to place seach and type in Croatia then pick "View related places" it will show you a list of places in Croatia it has filmed. If the area you are looking for is there it will tell you exactly what film can be hired to read. It will tell you what the film is such as Marriage, births, deaths and the years available. If you email Sylvie she will tell you exactly what is on their web page so it's best to learn yourself what is available on the LDS web page and find your way around it. You can also search the LDS web page and see if the names you are interested in are listed by anyone else searching the same names. The LDS is a good place to start but it may not have everything you want. Your best place to would be the Drzavni Arhives in Croatia, they have a listing of all names and what areas these names are from. Good Luck in your search. Michelle Thought that I had written the LDS filmed only the R.C. parish church records for Selce 1778-1886. Many parish church records at the Croatian Archives end in 1880s. For later (1900) surname records you would need to contact local registry office (matic^ni ured) serving the village/town. There are no LDS films for 1902 and 1937 for Croatia because the Archives don't have them either. It was Novigrad Istria 1913 and which was not filmed either by the LDS. Three Starigrad are located in Croatia. LDS filmed records for two of them for period 1769-1887. For Starigrad in Zadar region LDS only filmed the records for 1687-1857 because that is all the Archives had in their records.

Hello all, Looking for interpreter assistance in two areas. We are receiving and sending letters to Croatia but each side needs help translating. Is there an English to Croatian and Croatian/English service anyone knows about. I have looked at the software to do this, but the price is prohibitive. Also, we are traveling to Croatia in the next few months and looking for on-site translating in Croatia. Anyone know of a service or, perhaps, university students, who do this? Dick Puz
