    3. PS. In addition to Mrkopalj, many Slavs came from Delnice to Roslyn. I live in Seattle and have been to Roslyn, WA many times. The cemetery there has a section devoted to Croatians, and many are from Mrkopalj. Roslyn was a coal mining community and most of these folks were miners. It is located east of Seattle approximately 90 miles on the flanks of the Cascades (mountain range). If any of you in the US saw the TV series Northern Exposure, much of it was filmed in Roslyn, as were parts of the series Twin Peaks. Roslyn's history dates to about 1885. Various fraternal organizations purchased tracts of land for private cemetery use, so that today when one visits theold Roslyn cemetery, there are sections devoted to Croatians, Salvonians, Serbians, Italians, Lituananians, Redmen Lodge, Blacks, early pioneers, Knights of Pythias, Mason, Druids, Polish, etc. It is really a fascinating area to visit. Many of the graves are done in a European style, encased in cement above ground. It was a way to protect them from animals in the nearby forests (deer, etc.) Italians and Slavs were among the earliest immigrants to Roslyn. Many Weslh miners lived there as well as other Eastern European immigrants. The mines closed in the early 1960s. Many of the old "company biuuildings" still stand as they did then, including the company store, the saloon, etc. .

    3. Hello Frank, Thanks again for the information. I thought "Bukmas" was a strange name also but it came directly from Nina as follows: "It was Petar a son of Ivan Kisak (possibly Krsak, because of scribbling hand) and Barbara, born Bukmas." She also included birth date which matched with our records. Bukmas sounds like it might be an 'import.' Best, Paul > > "Paul F.
