There is a site where you cand find several stories about Zagreb's places (City streets, city blocks, city squares, Zagreb's history, etc) on audio formas (Real audio), so you can download the tale and listen it from your computer. The tales are in croatian, it's a pity to me beacause I don't understand croatian but i think that is a very good site. http://www.hrt.hr/hr/audio/zgbzapisi_eng.html This links and their histories are not genealogical but history allways helps to understand things that happened in the past.. Enjoy it..!! Diego M. Vukovich Researching: Dugi, Znidar, Tomasec, Fekeza, Vesely Gho, Ferretti, Molina mail: dvukov@speedy.com.ar
Have another couple given names and a few other words that I ran across today: Louve (is probably Lovro or Lovre - Lawrence) Guipar = ? (spelling is ?, esp the 2nd letter. the phone book found one alternate spelling suggestion: Gripar) On a death record: (woman's name) vidua ?unov? vidua is "widow" but can't make out the second word, all the letters look alike. Under her deceased husband's name is a word that looks like "Rurivolac". Any ideas? For cause of deaths we saw: Severtus = ? Dipteritis = Diphtheria? Gliste = Intensinal worms? The current online phone book lists an address for this church, so it is still operating. I don't believe that I ever said that the LDS had microfilmed records. And the statement that "church inventory" was destroyed does not tell us exactly what that was. If someone had been in touch with someone from that area recently who said they saw the surname on church records then one may suspect that those records may exist at the church today. And if not then the National Archives should have those records. One should check with the church and then the archives normal times or not. Yes, no one should expect someone to work on their behalf at no cost! And especially not those like the parishes and priest who could use the money for worthy work! Tom Ninkovich does a good job of how much to donate and how to "get to know" the priest so as to get the most of your search. http://www.croatia-in-english.com/gen/lesson3.html Robert Jerin ----- Original Message ----- From: <dave9759@juno.com> To: <CROATIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 15, 2002 2:32 PM Subject: Re: [CROATIA-L] Re: Unidentified subject! > I just want to add that if a church closed, then the records would most > likely go to the Diocese Archives, you would need to determine which > Diocese the church is in, - look for a Cathedral( the bishops seat), and > find the offices for that Diocese. I just want to add that if a church closed, then the records would most likely go to the Diocese Archives, you would need to determine which Diocese the church is in, - look for a Cathedral( the bishops seat), and find the offices for that Diocese. I.E if a church in the Split Diocese were to close you would look for the Cathedral(which is Split), then look for the Split Diocese Offices; write them and ask to have the parish archives researched for the records you want. By the way, most parishes are poor, and a small donation seems to help as well. Not all Roman Catholic Parishes were filmed, some small towns may not have had a church in which case the nearest larger community would be your best bet in finding a church. I think we are talking about the same thing. Records are filmed by each parish, ie parishes are not filmed together nor are towns of one parish filmed along with another parish on the same film. I believe what Christopher was asking was could Tompojevci been inc. with any regional films. The answer is no. The parish for Tompjevci is located in that town (since sometime in 1800s) and would not have been inc in any other regional film. The church located in Tompjevci may have served other towns/villages in the area, in that case if we search for those other towns/villages at LDS we are not likely to find them. In the case of a LDS search were no records are found, we need to determine if a church existed in that town. If no church existed then we need to determine which parish that town/village belonged to. Tom Ninkovich has developed one method, that appears to have been successful in many cases, by using Postal Codes. First check the NEW online phone book and determine if that town/village has a church. Find the postal code for the town/village in question and then bring up a list of all towns/villages in that Postal Code and find which one has a church. For instance in the case of my GMs village, Slapno (Karlovacka zupanija) 1) Phone book lists no church for Slapno (you need to search by county and look at all the listings) http://imenik.hinet.hr/?A=query&lang=1&def4d=selected&def1=Churches 2) LDS finds no records. http://www.familysearch.com/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp 3) Postal Code Search Type name using all caps then click on Traz"i! (means search) this will display Postal code which shows Slapno as shows Slapno as 47281 (Mali Erjavec Post office) then from the line which reads Podatak koji se pretrazuje select "Naziv pos"tanskog ureda, this will then give you all the towns/villages in that Postal Code. In the case of 4728` there are 11 towns/villages. http://www.posta.hr/mjestaasp/ 4) A search for churches in online phone book finds that only Svetice has a church today. http://imenik.hinet.hr/?A=query&lang=1&def4d=selected&def1=Churches 5) A search of LDS Family History Library finds they only have records for one of those 11 towns/villages.... v My grandmother was a Cop. Her brothers in America spelled it Chopp, but I'm not sure if that's what they got at immigration or if they chose the spelling. The pronounciation she used was always 'chop', as in to chop wood. When we visited her hometown in Croatia (Lokve, Gorski Kotar region) there were many Cop in the town cemetary, and the local family we visited with also pronounced it the same way. I don't know the history any farther back than two generations though. The Manly response to the "Eve was better, and God was a woman joke" when God created "EVE" He knew it was a terrible joke, Who could get lost in paradise and not worry except a woman, Adam wouldn't need a remote if he wasn't given the apple, and thus knowledge of the worldly desires and vices. Fashion didn't exist until Eve grabbed a fig leaf instead of a palm leaf. Until Adam was tempted there was no illness or pain, thanks to woman - "Eve" even the slightest pain is agonizing to a man. Who needs garbage night when all those critters will gladly clean up for you, - oops, we diviated from God's divine plan, and now they don't respond to our wishes. Thank "God" Our Father saw fit to put the blame where it should lay, and so woman had childbirth - a reminder of "God's perfect creation" he allows her to share in - so she knows what "Eve" messed up. Every now and then Adam would hide a tool to get Eve out of his hair. Only a woman would find fault with a man for telling the blunt truth.. then claim to be the victim to escape blame... and make a man feel guilty about it. On the 6th day God created "Man" and called it Good, on the seventh day he rested. Yes, God was all man, that's why Adam had pleasure and Eve got the shaft... Question- "why do popular culturalist insist on identifying God as female, - Christ definitively Identified God as father in the "Lord's Prayer", and in some of his words - Mt28v42 "My Father, if it is not possible that this cup pass without my drinking it, your will be done!" and in his warning excerpted from Lk 9 v26 "Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels." Sorry, I just get annoyed at people passing that old blasphemous joke about. - keep on laughing though.
