In my last message I suggested that this Facebook Group my be an alternative to the soon to be defunct Rootsweb List. Sad to see, but I could foretell this was coming due to the lack of posts. At least it will be available to archives so the rich source of data from previous users is preserved. > On January 12, 2020 at 8:44 AM Robert Jerin <kraljzvonimir47@gmail.com> wrote: > > > Marna > > Here is a group > > https://www.facebook.com/groups/croatianheritageandgenealogy/?ref=bookmarks > > > On Sat, Jan 11, 2020 at 6:06 PM Marna via CROATIA <croatia@rootsweb.com> > wrote: > > > Sad to hear this, I am on a variety of mailing lists, some not even for > > genealogy. Over the past 5 years many things have taken place in the area of Genealogy Research. We all know that more information online is one of those changes. But, for many, one the most dramatic changes that has come about is Facebook. Barely a week goes by that I am hearing about someone gaining information or connecting with here to fore unknown family members. 5 years ago my wife and I started the Facebook Group, Croatian Heritage and Genealogy. While our primary purpose was genealogy, we quickly found the group offered a chance to learn about Croatian customs and heritage as well as the latest news. Within the group we have a FILES section, which contain a SURNAME list of over 2,000 family names as well as the names of those who are researching those names, several individual family trees, recipes, history articles and more. The Group is closed, which means you must be a member to post information and offers us a degree of privacy. We have over 17,000 worldwide, including members in the US, Croatia, other European countries, South America, South Africa and Asia. Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. https://www.facebook.com/groups/croatianheritageandgenealogy/ -- Robert Jerin

I wanted to make everyone aware of the Croatian Heritage and Genealogy Facebook Group, with over 8,500 members (from all over the world) it is the largest such group of its kind. It is a closed group so only members may contribute and view messages. Here is the link in case you are interested in joining the Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/croatianheritageandgenealogy/about/ Facebook has become an exciting new tool over the past few years for locating and sharing of information, but most of all connecting families. -- Robert Jerin

Hi everyone, I husband and I were lucky enough to spend some time in Croatia this summer and bought a few Christmas presents. Two are aprons with funny sayings on them, and one is a picture I bought from a woman named Ana Kolega, who lives and works in Zadar. I was told the translations of these items when I bought them, but for the life of me I can’t find where I put that piece of paper. If someone could help me with the translation, how do very grateful. Thanks, Gloria Cabernoch
