    2. Donna Carpenter
    3. Brenda was kind enough to send me info some time ago and I have finally gotten around to trying to piece it together. I can not find her email address and hope you do not mind me posting this to the list. Here is what I came up with. 1. Jeremiah CROOSE was listed in the 1820 Jefferson Co. Louisville Dist. GA Census 3 Males b. 1810-1820 Suspect them as: JOHN L , JEREMIAH JR., WILLIAM L. 1 Male b. 1805-1809 Suspect him to be: SAMUEL S. 1 Male b. 1776-1795 which is JEREMIAH, SR. 1 Female b. 1776-1795 which is his wife 1 Female b. 1810-1820 Suspect her to be: MARYANNE 2. Forsyth County Marriages 1834-1850 GA Cruse John L. Sams Syntha 12 Jan 1834 Cruse Mary Ann Lindsey Anderson 21 Apr 1839 Cruse William Hawkins Emaline 15 Jan 1839 NOTE: Brenda noted Anderson LINDSEY and Maryann went to ALA but I don't know which county? 3. Hall County (next to Forsyth Co) Marriages 1819-1850 Crews Samuel S. Stringer Mary 01 July 1830 4. In "The Families of Hall Co. 1817-1849" by Robt. S. Davis, there is the following muster roll. ***NOTE: this info was supplied by David Harris "Muster Roll of Captain Reubin Sams Company of the 2nd Regiment 1st Brigade of GA mounted volunteers, commanded by Coln P. R. Foster, of Hall County received into the service of the United States by Major Genl Thos. S. Jessup under the act of Congress approved may 23rd 1836, from the fifth day of October 1837 to the eleventh day of May 1838. Cruse, William Prvt Oct. 5, 1837 Hall Co., GA Cruse, Jeremiah Prvt Oct. 5, 1837 Hall Co., GA (The list contained others) 5. ***Brenda writes: Private John L. Cruse - Seminole War Veteran, Captain Hubbard Barker's Company of Georgia Mounted Volunteers, mustered into service at Georgia Kellogg's store in Forsyth County on November 20, 1836. John Cruse was sent home from Florida War April 26, 1837 to "nurse the sick" [Jeremiah] by orders of Major General Jessup. He returned May 9, 1837. The company was discharged September 23, 1837 in Hall County Georgia. His brothers, Samuel and William, also fought in the Seminole War. According to his pension application: He stated at the time of enlistment in the Seminole War, he was 22 years of age, five feet and six inches tall, with gray eyes, light colored hair, and a dark complexion. He states he was born at Lewisville, Jefferson County, Georgia. He also states that his fathers name is Jeremiah Cruse(dec'd), his mother; Delilah Huggins(dec'd). He also stated that he had not remarried since the death of his first wife, Cynthia. The last statement proved to be a "crock", as he was already married for a second time to Malinda Green. Another conflict is that Jeremiah supposedly married Delilah Huggins in 1827..........long after Samuel and John were born. I have yet to go Jefferson County and retrieve the actual marriage document, I'm hoping it was misread and is actually 1807. I will put that on my list of "to-do's". ********************************* >Benda, I agree about the marriage date of 1827 for Delilah HUGGINS not being viable. The >census reported Jeremiah born between 1776-1795 and a son shown born between >1805-1809 making a likely marriage date around 1793-1808. However, is it possible Delilah >was a second marriage? The marriage of a Jeremiah CREWS to Elizabeth HARLAN (shown >below in item 6) is not viable either. For if the census info is correct, and the marriage records >are correct, Jeremiah would have been 12 yrs old in 1788 when the marriage took place. John >stating he was 22 yrs age upon enlistment puts him born about 1814 and coincides with the >date you gave me for his birth of Oct 24, 1813. dkc > 6. Crews marriages in Madison Co, KY. 1786-1822 Crews Jeremiah Harlen, Eliz. 11 Feb 1788 Gaddy, Elijah If the Jeremiah of the 1820 Jefferson Co GA Census were to be born in 1788 and marry at age 16 or 17 in the year 1805 having a son born that same year, then the Jeremiah who married Elizabeth HARLEN could possibly be the parents of Jeremiah of the 1820 GA Census. 7. Benda writes: You have Samuel listed as VA>GA>AL, Jeremiah was born in VA, but so far as I know, his children were born in Madison KY and Lewisville GA. Is it possible there is another Samuel and I have these two confused? >Brenda, there are several Samuels and census takers can make mistakes or even the provider >of the information can be unsure, however, on the 1850 Talladega County ALA Census for >Samuel S. CRUISE is recorded "Virginia" for place of birth. Samuel's son James Thomas >CRUISE b. 1833 lists his birth as Hall Co GA in pension papers. 8. So far this is the info I have on my ggg grandfather Samuel S.: Listed in 1830 Hall Co., GA census. Married in Hall Co. also. There were 2 other Cruse's there with same spelling that I know of. One-Jeremiah and Two-William. A William CRUISE shows up in 1840 Talladega Co., ALA census stating born 1813 in SC. Samuel shows up in 1850 Talladega Co., ALA census stating he was born 1810 in VA. All together the Cruises in Talladega (and one I know of in Coosa) are: Charles in 1840 Talladega and is possibly same person as Charles G. below Charles G. in 1850 Talladega b. 1802 SC. Samuel in 1850 Talladega b. 1810 VA Charles in 1850 Coosa Co. b. 1812 NC William in 1850 Talladega b. 1813 SC Joseph W. in 1850 Talladega b. 1813 SC James C. Kruse in 1840 Talladega b. 1810-1820 9.
