    3. Hazel: After all the help you have given me over the years, it is you who is the master genealogist. And I would like to publicly thank you in this forum! Regarding James Crews (2 Jul 1785 - 28 Sep 1875), son of Gideon and Jemima, I have him recorded without a middle name. All of the Granville County, NC wills, deeds, etc. that I have seen show him just as James Crews. Also, I have personally seen his headstone at the Salem Methodist Church and it reads "James Crews." The confusion may result from James's second son, who was named James A. Crews (15 May 1813 - 10 Aug 1892). This James A. Crews (grandson of Gideon and Jemima) was also known as "Tar River Jimmie". There is a write up on him and a photograph of his farm in the following: Andrew J. Carlson and Marvin A. Brown, "Heritage and Homesteads, The History and Architecture of Granville County, North Carolina" (Oxford, North Carolina: The Granville Historical Society, Inc.) I hope this helps, Randy Crews
