I found following in Stokes records - sent out before, but sending now to rest of list. Stokes Co. Deed Book 12-401: "This is to certify that I did sell my brother-in-law Thomas Crews a Negro girl by name of Elizabeth for value received about the year 1779." This record was dated Nov. 7, 1799 and signed by Reuben Talley. It was placed in the Stokes Deed Book June, 1839 in order to prove ownership for estate purposes. Thus, Reuben Talley was the brother of Mary (Polly) Crews who married Thomas Crews ca.1769 in Granville Co. Of course, I am now searching for their Talley parents - have had a lead saying Nicholas Talley, but another person stated he could find no connection. Anyone with Talley connections? Bob
