    3. Looks like I sent this to the wrong address. It should have been in the works yesterday. Oops! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Brian, It's good to hear from you. It sounds like you know more about this John CREW than I do. I do know that many people think this John CREW is the father of the John CREW who married Sarah GATLEY, but he died before the younger John CREW was born. I do know that Anne CREW m. c1670 Phillip ADAMS; Elizabeth CREW m. c1672 John KING of Mormusce, John CREW may have married Sarah OSBORNE but there were so many John CREWs around that time that it's hard to pin down which John she married. AND I've been told that John & Elizabeth also had a son named Robert CREW who m. Mary CRISPE 18 Oct 1703 Charles City Co, VA. Her mother was Mary HOWARD and they were m. at the house of James HOWARD. They are mentioned on pg. 166 of The Quaker Genealogy. They had a poss. dau., Elizabeth who m. Thomas ELLYSON in 1729 at the Friends Meeting House, New Kent Co, Va. Thomas b. c1674 d. c1761 s/o Gerrard ELLYSON & Anne MYHILL on pg. 164. If you can verify any of this, or refute it, I'd be glad to hear about it. We could use some help here. And I'd really like to hear about those children that Elizabeth & Robert HIGNETT had. I have no knowledge of them and would love to get their names, etc And can you help with references on these early CREWs? I keep wondering where people are finding the information such as b/d on first John CREW, etc. I'd sure appreciate it. ........................ Virginia, Re you note of yesterday, I've been unable to pinpoint Willis Norman CREWS in the database. Do you have any idea when he was born and where? There are several Willis's but there's just not enough information to sort out which one might be yours, if any. Maybe someone else has him and I'm sure they'll jump in here if they do. ........................ Donna, Your discovery of French Creuse(?) is interesting. I believe there were a couple of people who claimed their family were huegonauts(sp?), but most of them can trace their family back to England, I think. If it's spelled KRUSE they come from Germany. CRUZ is the Spanish spelling . I don't think they're the same lines that we research with one exception. There was a KRUSE family that went to PA and one son went to Madison Co, KY and changed the spelling to CREWS. Desc's of that line will probably end up in Germany, if they can figure out who they are. Talk about confusion! All I can say is if you think it will help, go for it! We could use the information, too, if they end up being one of these lines. ........................ Dan, You certainly have a much better map than I do to be able to pinpoint Turkey Island like that. You ask a lot of questions but I've been unable to figure out which line is John, Joseph, Joseph Jr & Gideon. Those are all such familiar names. I don't know of a link between John CREW and Capt. James CREWES of Turkey Island. Do you know what reference is used to show that Francis & Edward CREWs were living in America? I know their father was in London and my impression is that Edward was already dead when James was hanged and Francis was still in England, but I could be wrong. I hadn't heard of a James CREW that was an overseer on Col. Charles CARTER's plantation and would like to hear more about his murder. Giles CARTER was an overseer on the plantation of Col. James CREWES. Someday we hope to find out if Giles CARTER was m. to a sister of Col. James, either as his first wife or his second. This all shows a link between the CARTERs and the CREWES/CREWS. That's about the best I can do. I'm hoping someone else will comment on this, and I'm hoping you'll be able to give us some references to look at on these people? I'm throwing this in here just for fun because it won't help anyone, but it will show the surprises that can crop up in this hobby. Giles CARTER has a desc. Mary CARTER that married a Ralph HUDSPETH. One of their desc's knew my ggf Robert CREWS in MO during the Civil War and actually saved his life. It's a very long story that I won't go into, but the Hudspeths, or Headspeths were supposed to be relatives of the first wife of my gggf Julius Emmons, father in law to Robert. We haven't proved that part of the story, but I keep my eyes open for clues! Later, Pat
