Just recently returned from a trip to North Carolina and found this info on a David Crews. Maybe it will help someone: Book 24, Page 161, Halifax Co., North Carolina: This indenture made this 23 day of May, 1808, between David Crews of Stokes Co., and state of N.C. of the one part, and John Richardson of Halifax Co., and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said David Crews for and in consideration of the sum of $25.00 dollars to me in hand, paid the rect. whereof I do acknowledge have granted bargained and sold unto the said John Richardson, his heirs and 17 acres of land. It being a part of that tract of land belonging to Benjamin Bass, dec., it being his daughter Grace's part supposed to be 17 acres, be the same more or less. To have and to hold the said land to the said Richardson his heirs and assigns forever and I the said David Crews as her agent in law, do bind myself my heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend the right and title of said land against the claim or claims of any person or persons whatever to the said John Richardson his heirs and assigns. In witness whereof I have hereunto et my hand and affixed my seal the day and year above written. Seal: David Crews, Agent John Lee John Lee Jr. Halifax Co., Nov. Sessions 1817. Then this deed was exhibited in open court and duly proven by the oath of John Lee one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and on motion ordered to be registered.
