John Crews, fa of Benjamin, grandfather of Peter Moody of previous posts: John d. 1799 in Wake Co., NC, but does not appear in the 1790 census so it is presumed he is newly arrived from Va. A Va. newspaper gives an account of the desertion of Benjamin, his son, "of Sussex" in 1794, from the state militia during the Ft. Pitt expedition. Apparently no discipline followed because the expedition was a federal one and he was in the state militia and under no real obligation. By 1800, he is shown as HOH in Wake Co., following his father's death. His ES was administered by Naomy Crews and in another document the administratrix is listed as Minor Crews, which may have been Naomy's maiden name or the name of a child. Ch: 1.
