    3. Charlie, This 1886 map shows the Linwood Cemetery("cemetery" written on the hillside) overlooking Columbus. The view is from the Alabama side of the Chattahoochee River. Phenix City is actually much higher in elevation than Columbus and you can actually look down on Columbus from it's heights and see a view like this one. Many residents of Columbus would spend summer months in Phenix City to escape mosquitos and the heat of the lower valley. Perspective map of Columbus, Ga., county seat [of Muscogee Cou]nty, 188[6]. We know from that ad in the Milledgeville paper that he advertised in about 10 counties and lived in Ellerslie. I also saw his name more than once in the Columbus Enquirer Newpaper listing those that had mail waiting for them at the Columbus Post Office. I think that was in the 1830's and 40's. There's been no word yet on the dates. David News story: http://www.athensnewspapers.com/1997/112697/1126.a2cemetery.html
