(Re: the posts last week under the subject Constance Whicker re: Matthew CREWS, son of Ephraim and Rachel CREWS. I have a group sheet on Ephraim CREWS and Rachel McHANEY compiled in 1982 by R. C. CREWS of San Diego CA. It lists his sources as Erma Wells Morris, Halifax Co VA marriage records, the will of Ephraim Crews, the will of Joseph McHaney Crews, and the 1850 census of Halifax Co. VA. Are we talking about the same couple? Is there any possibility someone has confused two different Matthew CREWS? It shows Matthew CREWS' wife as Susanna RIVES (daughter of Charles RIVES) and does not mention a marriage to Constance WHICKER. I also have a group sheet compiled by the same person for Matthew CREWS and Susanna RIVES, as well as one compiled by David Marshall in 1995 (although he shows the name as RIVERS). Again, neither indicate a second marriage to Constance WHICKER, although they both do show children of Matthew and Susanna as having died in Forsyth Co NC. Benjamin LAX, 10 Dec 1813. 7. Rachel m. Edmund MOREFIELD 24 Sep 1816 Comments: I haven't a clue how Ephraim fits into the Halifax VA CREWS families. Benjamin LAX is related to Susannah LAX CHILDRESS CREWS, second wife of my ancestor Peter CREWS (nephew if memory is serving me correctly). I also just realized I have a similar group sheet for Ephraim CREWS compiled by Linda Hutchins Collier, a LAX researcher, in 1996. She has his wife as Rachel UNKNOWN and spells Matthew's wife Susanna's last name as REVES.
