    3. Pat, The address that I sent you (to the James Crewes discussion) should be correct, except you should make sure you don't include the period after ".htm". Sorry if this confused you. Another item regarding this site: The web page text in one place references the wrong volumn of the "Genealogies of VA Families, Wm. & Mary Quarterly" (and I messed it up even more). The correct volumn is IV. However, I wouldn't make a special trip to the library for it. I checked it out this past weekend, and it really doesn't say much more than the web page covers. Finally, in regards to James Crews, the overseer who was murdered on Charles Carter's plantation in 1792, I have (perhaps) another related item. According to the Quaker Henrico Monthly Meeting notes, a James Crews was "disowned" in 1788 for "overseeing slaves & non-attendance". This would be in the right area at the right time, and at least provides some circumstantial evidence that this James was related to the Quakers many of us tie back to. I have also decided (perhaps it was obvious to others) that the plantation he was shot on was probably the well-known "Shirley Plantation", and that the owner, Charles Carter, was the father-in-law of Light-Horse Harry Lee and grandfather of Robert E. Lee. Does anyone know if there were other Charles Carters (owning plantations) in the area at this time? Shirley Plantation, it seems, is directly across the James River from Turkey Island (home of James Crewes), and a few miles from the properties of various Ladds, Pleasants, and Crews (including the Crews farm from Civil War fame). By the way, I now have "soft copy" of some of the court documents on this murder (courtesy of a scanner), but I didn't include this document because of it's length. If anyone would like a copy (text or Microsoft Word), send me a note and I'll send you an attachment. Dan Fawcett ([email protected])
