    1. [CREWS-L] Which James CREW?
    2. MRS PATRICIA A RAY
    3. Dan, Thanks so much for the court record. So they just wanted to rob him. What a shame. You are guessing that this James CREWS was s/o Joseph CREWS and Massie JOHNSTON. That James moved to Granville Co, NC with brothers Gideon, Caleb and poss. Thomas. He died in 1831. I looked thru about 80 James's trying to find a likely candidate and found 3. James CREWS m. Judith HARRIS (s/o Andrews CREW & Hannah ELLYSON) He was b. 1725 Chas. City Co., d. bef. 10 Mar 1799. He would have been around 60/64 unless it was him who was killed, then he was 56. James CREWS, s/o above James. b. 1774 d. 10 Mar 1793 Now I see the coincidence of the date of death (approx) being 10 Mar in each case. I'm wondering if the year should be the same, whether 1793 or 1799. Then if something was written up on the son when he died, and it mentioned that his father was already dead, that would be why it gives "bef 10 Mar..." for the fathers' death. Is that clear? Anyway, that would make the father an even better candidate because it MIGHT bring his death down to before 1793. The last candidate I see is James CREWS s/o John CREW Jr. & Agatha ELLYSON. We have very little info on him. He was named in his brothers' will (Ellyson CREWS) who died in 1772. I still like the first one as the most likely, so I'm asking if anyone else might see a better one? Or know why this one's not good. Where did James (m. Judith HARRIS) die? When? How/ Two of the above are gsons of John CREW & Sarah Gatley and the other is a ggson. Interesting. Keeps it in the family. Pat
