The information on David Crews listed below perpetuates the idea that he was born in England, which, as Donna Hechler Porter has presented convincingly in her book METES AND BOUNDS II, he was not. In fact, it was probably his grandfather who came from England. I believe that one source of this idea may have been a statement in "History of Howard & Cooper Counties" (1883) made by David's grandson Samuel Tribble Crews, MD (son of David Crews, Jr) that his grandfather was "a sturdy Yorkshireman." Who knows where this family story got started! David (or David Milton) was however a good source of SAR and DAR memberships. My mother's half-sisters listed him as their DAR membership ancestor. (We are descended through his son, Andrew).
