There was an older Gideon > Cruze (Crews) in Amherst Co., VA. (1762, d. a.1798). Gideon CRUSE bought land in Greene Co. TN in 1796. The deed says he was "formerly of Buckingham Co. VA" and makes no mention of NC. The last thing I've been able to find on either James or Gideon in VA was the 1782 tax list for Wreck Island Creek, Buckingham Co. VA area (now in western Appomattox Co.). Did they really live in NC before coming to TN? There was a Gideon CREWS in NC about the time James and Gideon moved to TN, a different person. I'm trying to find out information on Lucinda HOOD, wife of James CREWS. She is said to have been a sister of Aaron HOOD Sr. who died in Knox Co. TN, and that does seem to be the case. These CREWS and HOODs do associate quite closely together, and two of Aaron's sons - Aaron Jr. and Luke -- can be found in IN in the 1830s. James CREWS' son Ellison was there, too. There was also a Charles HOOD in Knox Co. TN at this time, who later moved to the same area of IN. Was he another brother? I appreciate any input. Vickie Elam White
