I'm a new member of the Orangeburgh e-mail group. I am researching the VARNADOE family of that area. I am looking for the father of Samuel E. VARNADOE, b.ca 1847. His mother's name was Mary (b.ca 1810) and his siblings were Rachel, Susan, Caroline, Cynthia, and William (b.ca 1836) who married Cynthia E. ??. Samuel married Mary Ann CREWS and had Sam, Annie, Rufus Claudius, David, Frank, Birtie, and Laura. Any information would be appreciated. I was also wondering if anyone knew anything about the John and Barbara PLATT who are mentioned in the records of Rev. Giessendanner. However, I am descended from the Varnadoe line that stayed in SC. My grandmother, May Bell Varnadoe, was born in Luray, SC, in 1899. Her father was Rufus Claudius Varnadoe, born 1875, in Hampton, SC. His father was Samuel E. Varnadoe who married Mary Ann Crews. All I know about Samuel is that his mother's name was Mary. This is where I am stuck. I have not had any luck finding out who Samuel's father was. Thanks again for the info! I was also wondering if you might know how I can get hold of a copy of "The Family of Leonard Vernadeau and Sarah Hutto, Three Generations" I live in Texas and this book is not available in any of the libraries out here. Thanks for everything. Ronda Sword Winkfein
