I am sorry that I do not know about George Madison Crews. I do know that the Crews, Lightfoots & Darnells were (and are still) in Dunklin Co. MO & in Mississippi Co, AR. My g g grandfather, Joseph(?) Crews married a Bettie (Elizabeth Ann)Darnell. He was originally from NC & she was from TN. I have not found them yet in the census records. I would also look at Dyer Co. Tenn, Pemiscot Co. MO & Hardeman Co, TN. Hope you can find more info. There were LOTS of Crewses around the Missouri bootheel from early 1800's. Good Luck- Gwyn Wood
seeking info on George Madison Crews--so far very little known. George married Cora Emaline Wood, date unknown. They had 5 children: Janie Pearline, Erlene, Irene, Lee and Ray Crews. All are believed to be born in Dogwood MO (Mississippi Co.). Of the Crews line, it is said that the mother's family name was Madison)--perhaps, moved from VA to TN. And of the Wood line, it is said that the mother's family name was Rogers, the very one who settled Rogersville and ran an inn. (Although I have not found this connection so far in any material about Joseph Rogers who married Mary Amis). This Joseph came to TN from Ireland. Little as it is, that's it--except for anecdotal material in the family that says "there are many John Wesley Wood men in the family, and other Wood's, Walter and Kermit are from KY. There is also apparently one Maude Wood Darnell who lives (or did) in Sikeston, MO.

The 1810 Buckingham Co. VA federal census shows Nathaniel HOOD age 45+ and John HOOD age 45+ were listed on pg. 819 and pg. 821 respectively. Does anyone know about these men? Were they brothers? Some other relation? Where did they come from? The 1820 Buckingham Co. VA federal census for New Canton shows a John HOOD age 45+ but no Nathaniel HOOD. Was this the same John? Where did Nathaniel go? Also listed on this census in New Canton was a Hobson HOOD age 45+ and in 1830 this Hobson HOOD was in neighboring Campbell Co. VA. He was there in 1840, too. Then, on the 1850 Appomattox Co. VA census was Hobson HOOD and Nathaniel H. HOOD. Was Hobson's full name Nathaniel Hobson and Nathaniel H. was his son, possibly a Jr.? That might explain why Nathaniel doesn't show up on the 1820 Buckingham Co. VA census but Hobson does. Or were they totally separate men? And were these HOODs connected with Aaron HOOD and his sister Lucinda HOOD, who later migrated to Knox Co. TN with the CREWS family of Buckingham Co. VA? Vickie Elam White
