I had seen the census listing Joseph, Mattie and Jessie Crew in 1880 and it was a tantalizing lead but never could verify it. I'm relatively new to genealogy research and didn't know a death certificate could possibly have the answers. How do you go about obtaining one? 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: MaryHayes67 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crews/1299.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: On the 1880 Wesly, Washington Co., OH Census there is a Jessie Crew, age 3 months in the household of Joseph Crew age 30, b OH; Mattie E. age 27 b OH; Minnie age 7 b OH. As you are aware Jessie & Robert were married on 7 April 1897 in Webster Co., KY. Usually people were married in the County where the bride lived. There is another marriage record dated 9 July 1949 Clay, Webster Co., KY to Walter Siggers. On Ancestry I looked at some of the Census Records and on the 1930 Census it states that Jessie was 16 when she was married to Robert. Since the 1890 Census was burned it's very difficult to trace some during the period from 1880 to 1900. My experience has been that ages change, place of birth can change from one census to another. Also, I checked the public family trees on Ancestry and there is one listing for: Jessie Jane Crews born 19 April 1880 Dixon, Webster Co., KY; died 30 June 1963 Wheatcroft, Webster Co., KY. Your best bet at this point is to obtain a Death Certificate for Jessie and hopefully it will have the correct names of her parents and where she was born. But beware some death certificates do not have the correct information on them. My Crews ancestors are from Halifax Co., VA. Hope this was of some help, we all have hit brick walls in research. Good Luck and Happy Hunting. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ElizabethHearrin Surnames: Crews Cowan Cowen Cowans Crew Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crews/1299/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for information on the parents of Jessie James Crews. From the information I have, she was born in Ohio around 1881. I have seen other places saying that she was born in 1879 or that she was born in Webster County, Kentucky. She married Robert Seldon Cowan of Webster County, Kentucky around 1897. She died in 1963 and is buried in Wesbter Co Ky. Robert passed in 1942 and I suspect she may have remarried a man named Walter Sigler (or Ziegler) in 1949, though I have yet to verify this. Jessie and Robert had several children, one of whom, Nancy, married Tip Hearrin Sr of Webster Co Kentucky. I have looked and looked and cannot find who her parents were.
