I do know that many people think this John CREW is the father of the John CREW who married Sarah GATLEY, but he died before the younger John CREW was born. I do know that Anne CREW m. c1670 Phillip ADAMS; Elizabeth CREW m. c1672 John KING of Mormusce, John CREW may have married Sarah OSBORNE but there were so many John CREWs around that time that it's hard to pin down which John she married. AND I've been told that John & Elizabeth also had a son named Robert CREW who m. Mary CRISPE 18 Oct 1703 Charles City Co, VA. Her mother was Mary HOWARD and they were m. at the house of James HOWARD. There was a KRUSE family that went to PA and one son went to Madison Co, KY and changed the spelling to CREWS. I hadn't heard of a James CREW that was an overseer on Col. Charles CARTER's plantation and would like to hear more about his murder. Giles CARTER was an overseer on the plantation of Col. James CREWES. Someday we hope to find out if Giles CARTER was m. to a sister of Col. James, either as his first wife or his second. This all shows a link between the CARTERs and the CREWES/CREWS. David ********************************* David, I'm not sure how this all fits together, but he's some additional info: Turkey Island is directly south of the Glendale National Cemetary (about 5 miles), and about a mile south of Route 156. Glendale National Cemetary is bounded on the east by Turkey Island Creek, which joins with Crewes Channel (further south) to feed the James River at Turkey Island. This is the area where Capt. James Crewes lived, and where John Pleasants (son of Thomas Pleasants) maintained a fishing seine. Regarding the name 'Lead', it is also mentioned in the will of Thomas Pleasants. The book "Colonial Wills of Henrico Co., VA, Part Two (1737-1781)" states: "Will of Thomas Pleasants .... I also appont my living friends: my brother John Pleasants and his son Robert my nephew John Crew (it is hard to tell whether he means Robert or John Crew as his nephew), James Lead, Robert Ellyson, David Johnson, Henry Terrel, David Terrel, and John Cheadle, as trustees of my will.... I am in search of my family roots. I know very little information about this side of my family. I know there was a Willie Crews who had a brother(my great grandfather) Willis Norman Crews...Willie died in LaGrange GA in 1969...she also lived in GA all her life as far as I know...my great grandfather married twice. I do not know the name of his first wife, but they had two children...Norman Frederick Crews(1919-1986) and Helen Crews(?-1996)...Willie raised the children when Willis married Myrtle Sims and they moved away...Helen Crews married a Lorma Stewart and had 5 children...after Lorma's death she remarried a Baily Wilson...Norman F. Crews married a Catherine Bryan in GA. They had two children Dennis Bryan Crews(killed in 1973 or 74) and Norman Frederick Crews JR.
