    3. Found a short article in "Granville Connection," publication of the Granville County Gen. Soc. which tells about family of Gedeon Crews Sr. and Jr. Apparently they attended the Salem Church and lived nearby. Other family names listed as members were Earls and Harrises. I dont think the article tells more than we already know concerning these families, but many of these families are buried in the Salem Church grounds. The article mentions that the descendants of James Crews and his wife Sarah Earl are represented well in this area today. Current names mentioned who are attached to this family today were the late Sarah Earl Hunt, Frank Earl Parham, the New York lawyer, F. Earl Hunt and Elbert Earl Fuller of Oxford, and Julian Earl Harris, son of the late Samuel R. Harris of Henderson, who is now a professor at U. of Wisconsin. Bob Jordan

    3. Pat, I show no issue for Constance WHICKER and Matthew CREWS. I have 5 children for Constance and Reuben CREWS however. They are: Harmon, James, Mary, Patsey Jane "Martha" CREWS and Milly CREWS. Hazel

    1. [CREWS-L] Lincoln/Stanton
    2. Hazel D. Knight
    3. Someone posted sometime ago info. relating to Lincoln and his Secretary of War, William Stanton after the Civil War. Supposedly Lincoln & Stanton ordered the hanging of about 10,000 Confederate soldiers and sympathizers. The hangings were done in the Washington Navy Yard. One gallows could hang 10 people at once & the hangings went on for over two years. Elmer A. "Bud" Houser may have made the post or else was credited for the information. In any event I seem to have lost most of the posting and would like to know more. Can anyone help me? Hazel

    3. Hazel, I have merged Constance WHICKER, wife of Matthew CREWS, and Constance WHICKER, wife of Reubin CREWS. I see she has two children by Reubin but none by Matthew. Is this right? And Bren, Yes, I do agree where Joseph CREWS & Mary McMANNUS are placed. And thanks for reminding me where we got that placement. I also have 7 children for them. Does anyone have another generation for this couple? Pat

    1. [CREWS-L] Constance WHICKER/confusion abounds
    2. Hazel D. Knight
    3. Pat, Chuck & especially Bren, Oops...I see I did make a terrible boo boo by saying "Constance then married his brother Reuben". We are speaking here of Matthew CREWS, Constance WHICKER & Reuben CREWS. Constance 1st md. Matthew, s/o Ephiram CREWS & Rachel. She then md. Reuben CREWS, s/o James & Amelia. Some researchers believe Constance never md. Matthew but I beg to differ. Reason: Constance WHICKER Crews attested to having grown up with and knew Mary Dean and that Constance and her husband, Matthew CREWS attended the wedding of James WHICKER & Mary DEAN. At the time she made this attestment she swore she was 86 yrs. old. The instrument was made in 1858. James WHICKER and Mary DEAN married in 1792. I believe Constance later md. Reuben CREWS. Matthew CREWS was the son of Ephraim CREWS who in his will (Halifax Co. VA) left his estate to his wife Rachel for her lifetime; after her death it was to be divided between his sons, Ephraim and a Joseph M. Haney upon payment to his son Matthew $150.00. At his wife's death certain property was to be divided between his daughters, Patsy, Sally, Rebecca & Rachael. The Admas. Bondsmen were Benjamin Lax & Matthew CREWS. The 1858 instrument is worded by Constance as saying she was at the time of the wedding of James & Mary Dean she, Constance was married to Matthew CREWS. This indicates that she was later married to someone else as of the time the instrument was written. I hope this clarifies matters. I truly am sorry for my goof in my prior message and hope this straightens everyone out. Hazel

    3. Rosemary, I have 4 Rebecca TERRELs but the one you have, d/o Thomas TERRELL and Revecca PEATROSS m. Lemuel TERRELL 15 Arp 1804. He was s/o Pleasant TERRELL & Catharine FARIS/PHARISS Everything I have on the TERRELLs goes back to Henry TERRELL and Susannah WATERS. I don't have anything as early as what you have. There's a couple of Richmond's in the db, but they're much later. The only Robert I have is Robert Adams TERRELL b. c1800 Boonville MO. I am so fascinated by the TERRELLs and the MERIWETHERs and the LEWISs. They overlap constantly and the twists and turns go on and on! The LEWISes are swarming all over Franklin Co, Mo where my John CREWS moved from Madison Co, KY. And I don't think I'm related to any of them! But my CREWS & EMMONS married into the families. Another line I can't leave alone is MUSICK. If you need or just want the TERREL lines, I can send you copies of Desc. charts. Pat

I really gave up trying to figure it out. Right now she's in the DB only once. Joseph [Andrew, Andrew, John] How she got there is a good question that I think maybe Joanne can answer. Pat

    1. [CREWS-L] Constance WHICKER
    2. Hazel D. Knight
    3. Pat, Chuck & Bren, Constance WHICKER, b. 1772 was the d/o John & Martha WHICKER. She 1st md. Matthew CREWS according to her deposition made in 1858 for the Rev. War pension of James WHICKER sought by James' widow. Constance WHICKER stated in the deposition that when James and his wife were married in 1792 that she, Constance WHICKER was then married to Matthew CREWS. Now, Reubin CREWS names Constance as his wife in his will as does he name his children. We do not know what happened to Matthew but can only assume he died and Constance then married his brother Reuben. In answer to your question Pat, yes this would be the same Constance WHICKER. She is sometimes refered to as Cony or even Corny. Incidentally, like Pat, I also show Elizabeth as a ch. of James & Amelia. Hazel

    2. RHollis123
    3. Pat, You were recently asking about some Terrells. I only have one Rebecca listed in my database. I'm sure there are more. This one is dau. of Thomas and Rebecca (Peatross) Terrell. She was born 22 Dec 1780 St. Margaret's Parish, Caroline Co., VA. I don't have a husband listed. Thomas was son of Henry and Anne (Chiles) Terrell. I show Robert and Jane (Balwin) with two sons named Richmond. Have no idea why since it seems the elder one was still living when the other was born. Of course, there may not have been two named Richmond. Sons of Robert (above) Richmond Terrell, Sr. born 17 Oct 1624 England, m. Elizabeth Waters Richmond Terrell born before 1658 New Kent Co., VA Richmond Terrell, Jr., son of Richmond, Sr. born 1650 m. Susanna Waters William Terrell, son of Richmond, Sr. born 1656 m. Susanna Waters Something sure looks wrong here. I don't have a Margaret Douglas Meriwether listed at all. I think the reason is I must have only entered my lines and never went back and did the other ones. Rosemary
