    1. Jonathan CREWS-Goodspeed
    2. MRS JOANNE R BLACK
    3. from Goodspeed Wayne Co TN bios Jonathan Crews, a prominent citizen of Wayne County, Tenn., was born in North Carolina in 1825. His parents, William and Malisent (Hicks) Crews, were natives of the same State, and came to Tennessee about 1830. The father was a farmer, a member of the Hardshell Baptist Church, and a Whig in politics, and during the late war stood firm for the Union. His death occurred in 1871, and his wife's in 1877. Our subject made his parents' home his home until attaining his majority, when he was married to Frances Morrow, a daughter of Archibald and Martha (Parker) Morrow. Mrs. Crews was born in this State in 1827, and is the mother of nine children: Martha A., Malisent, William, Mary E., Nancy J (deceased in 1886), Eletha C. (deceased in 1861), Sarah F., Archie F. (deceased in 1862) and Gustina. Mr. Crews was a resident of Lawrence County until 1864, when he came to Wayne County and resided on several different farms until 1881, when he purchased his present farm of 80 acres, on which he located and has lived to the present time. He and Mrs. Crews are members of the Hard-shell Baptist Church.

    3. Below is the first part of the RootsWeb Review Newsletter which comes out periododically. I've asked whether my members get a copy of this newsletter but I haven't gotten a satisfying answer. Would someone who is not a member of RootsWeb please tell me if you've received it since you joined this mailing list? Please? Some of the stories are fascinating, and it has notices of the new boards and projects that are coming online at a fantastic rate. We all want to know about them, I'm sure, so if you don't get this newsletter, let me know so I can keep you abreast. Or better yet, join RootsWeb and help support these projects. I think this organization is on the cutting edge of Genealogy! * * * * * * * ROOTSWEB REVIEW: Genealogical Data Cooperative News Vol. 2, No. 14, 7 April 1999. In March, RootsWeb supported the following for the Internet genealogical community: o 4,030 independently authored Web sites. o 108,887,834 total Web hits: 28,801,459 were HTML pages. 17,209,828 were cgi-bin database searches and such. 62,815,960 were graphics (GIFs, JPEGs, etc.). o 2,154,058 file downloads from the USGenWeb Archives and the ROOTS-L Library. o 6,100 independently operated RootsWeb-hosted mailing lists. o 163,035,217 pieces of e-mail shipped to our mailing lists. That's about a 14% increase in traffic just since January. What folks may not realize is just what those numbers mean. It takes a huge amount of bandwidth to transfer all these Web pages and e-mail messages to the Internet, and RootsWeb's monthly Internet costs have grown from about $10,000 to about $12,000 in just the last two months. It also takes about 30 servers (very large computers) to handle all these Web pages and mailing lists, and RootsWeb is having to spend $10,000 or more each month adding new servers and upgrading its older servers to keep up with demand. No government agency or big corporation pays for RootsWeb: we're entirely supported by contributions made by users like you. If you like the support RootsWeb is providing for the genealogical community and if you want help RootsWeb provide even better support for the community, please consider supporting us and becoming a RootsWeb Contributor: <http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html> or send e-mail to: <RW-info@rootsweb.com> RootsWeb's address is: RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative, P.O. 3. DJ, Here is a desc. chart for George and Elizabeth TUBB, this is from my db which I posted from the book "Primal Families of Yellow Creek Valley" by William J. Nesbitt. The * James TUBB (s/o George & Elizabeth) is the one you show as possibly the James TUBB who m. Henson H. CREWS d/o Benjamin CREWS and Lucretia (unk). Also note further down the chart, a desc. of this James TUBB's sister Phoebe m. a Charlie CRUZE and had sons Eugene and Dan CRUZE. This chart was done with PAF, so be careful of dates (because for example, someone whose dob is "abt 1799" or "1799/1805" in the file will simply show up as b. 1799 in PAF's desc. charts). 3. Help!!! I have been searching for several years for Mary Ellen Crewey in the Miami County area of Ohio. The last name may also be spelled Cruey. She married Thomas Clegg. Mary Ellen and Thomas had several children. One daughter, Alice, married Clarkson Applegate. I have some documentation on Alice, but nothing on her parents. I have found a Mary Ellen Myere married to a Thomas Clegg in 1860. This is the right time frame, but I can't make a positive connection. Family legend claims that Mary Ellen was a Cherokee Indian woman and was taken in by Thomas Clegg, a Quaker. Does anyone have any advice. I have checked county records, census records, Quaker records, the local history center in Miami County, but my search has uncovered little. I would be forever grateful for the smallest bit that would help make a positive connection. Thanks in advance to genealogists everywhere.
