    3. Dollye, It is definitely a possibility that Martin and Mary Ann Crews were the same as the couple in Rhea Co, TN, and Martin could have returned to KY before Mary Ann. It is so difficult in that time period...so little info in census. It is an assumption that Nancy is the mother or perhaps stepmother of Martin, Rufus and others since she is the right age and the only in Rhea Co, TN in census. I will do some looking in KY also. It just amazes me the way they "jet set" about on their horses and in their wagons. They sure put me to shame. Traveling to TN last week in a comfortable van was an effort for me. Staying in those comfortable motels with air conditioning and hot and cold running water. I should be ashamed of myself for being tired. I am definitely TOO soft. ha. Thanks for your reply, Carol

    1. [CREWS-L] Littleberry Crews
    2. I seek information on Littleberry Crews, born around 1830 in NC. Where? Who were his parents? I know that he married Nancy Hinson in Chatham County, NC in the 1850's. Had 3 children, George, Ruth Ann, and Emma. Fought in CW. He disappeared after Nancy died in 1869. The only trace I have found is reference to him being in SC in 1874 when Ruth was married. Where, when did he live, die, was buried. Did he ever marry again? Any other children? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. DM

    3. Thanks so very much for answering. My husband's gr gr grandfather was Rufus M Crews b. 1820 who moved to Wright Co, MO abt 1855 and became Crewse. His wife was Myra Wasson (various spellings) It sounds as if your Mary A. Davis Crews could be the wife of Martin Crews, he is in 1830 census and 1840 census Mary Ann is listed head of household. with 1 son under 5, 1 females under 5, 2 females 5-9 and 1 female 10-15. Since Martin and Nancy Crews were the only ones listed in 1830 census Rhea co, TN. it is safe to say Nancy is either Rufus mother or step mother for Martin was too young. 1830 censu Martin is 20-29, Mary Ann is 16-19 and they have a son under 5. But your Mary A. Crews is the same Mary Ann it sounds as if some of the birthdates don't quite ring true if Martin is deceased by 1838. Since she is the one listed in the school list with children in school. I am so glad to find another person working on the Crews in Rhea Co that descends from some other family member besides Rufus. M. Crewse. I had tried to find a marriage for Mary Ann or find her in the 1850 census, but didn't have any luck at all. The spelling Cruns explains why I didn't have any luck. I sure wish I knew the ages of Hardy and Stephen in Rhea Co, TN tax list and if they moved on or deceased. It seems possible they could be of the Hardy Crews family in Persons Co, TN. A researcher of that family says Stephen went to Jackson Co, IL. and Hardy Lawrence Co, TN. I suspect that Hardy may be the father of Rufus, Martin, Martha and others that am not sure of the names. It looks as if we may never know. Did your Crews family stay in TN or move on? Keep in touch and good luck, Carol

    3. Can anyone shed any light on these two? 1820 Rhea Co, TN tax list in Capt. Swan's Co,was Hardy CREWS 1 white poll, no acreage. Supplemental Tax List taken by collector 1825 and returned to court after tax list was made out for that year and 1824 was Stephen CREWS, 1 white poll and no acreage. 1830 census Rhea Co, TN Nancy CREWS (b. 1780-1790 Prob. NC) is head of household, and with her children is enumerated her son in law Martin E. PAUL. Martin E. Paul mar Martha Creuse in 1829. Martin and Nancy received a land grant on Walden's Ridge for 500 acres in 1831. Also head of household is Martin CREWS a young married couple with 1 young son. Nancy and Hardy CREWS mortgaged the 500 acres and everything they owned in 1837 to a Mr. Gillenwaters. My thought is to pay Martin PAUL for his half of the land grant. 1840 Nancy CREWS is head of household with 3 children at home. Martin PAUL is also head of household. Mary Ann CREWS (probably Martin's wife) is head of household with 5 children. 1838 Mary CREWS has 2 children in school; Nancy CREWS has 1 child in school. They were in School District #1. School District #1 was on the Northwest corner of Rhea Co, TN on Walden's Ridge. Thanks, Carol Boykin

    3. Pam, I don't have this family group in my database but I do have a Mary Jane BURCH of Chariton Co, MO who married Wm. J. WALLACE about 1840. He was s/o Samuel WALLACE b. 1770 Charlotte Co, Va and Anna SNOODY b. 1778 of Va. Could this possibly be your Mary? 3. Prepare for a deluge, Susan. Might I suggest that loads of information about ancestors and descendants is contained in the book "Metes and Bounds II" by Donna H. Porter. I obtained a copy from Gregath Publishing (www.gregath.com, I think). Try the main Rootsweb page for how to search archives. Maybe someone else can provide more complete info on archive searching. As one of David M's incredibly numerous descendants, would you be willing to post your descent from Rhoda and William Moorman. Edwin Crews (Pete) Douglass "Susan E. 1. [CREWS-L] What happened to Joseph and Sarah Crews?
    2. greg pavloff
    3. I am looking for what happened to two people in my family line, Joseph and Sarah Robinson Crews, my 4th grt-grandparents Bannister's brother and Frances's sister. They are missing between the time of the birth of their last child in 1857 and the 1860 census. It is presumed they died (influenza?) Many of their young children are living with relatives. One of these young ones, JQA Crews, is later hanged as a murderer in TX and mentions his unfortunate childhood. Can anyone tell me what happened to Joseph and Sarah Crews and where they are buried? Also what about their youngest child Mary Ann who was born in 1857. I don't find her yet in the 1860 census--did she die before then? Thanks for the help Angela Pavloff
